N.E. Brigand
The DCI website now has an "DCI lIVE" FAQ page. The answer most on this thread are looking for is there. Will a “DVR” feature be available on the new DCI Live! platform? At this time, DCI Live! streaming events will be available as they are happening live and in real-time in order to more appropriately comply with copyright and licensing requirements. Real-time streaming means that the online video will only be available while the live event is taking place at its stadium of origin. A rewind feature will be available only during the live stream, but will not continue once the event ends at its stadium of origin, whether you’ve “caught up” with the show or not. Streams will become unavailable once the competition concludes. http://www.dci.org/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=33500&ATCLID=210147154 Thanks for posting that news. It does seem that DCI is going to see a large drop in streaming subscription income in 2015.
garfield
... do you ever watch anything on TV? do you buy a ticket to a professional sports arena? do you ride on public transportation? do you go to the movie theater? just curious, since you pay for all of those things and they all have ads. I'm old enough to remember free, commercial TV. Cable TV was going to change all of that. Pay for a product and you avoid the commercials, they said. I'm with drangin on this. I shouldn't have to watch commercial ads on a product I pay for.
ashevillemurphy
Has anyone else noticed that the "expiration date" for the various DCI LIVE! plans is August 20th...so clearly there isn't a plan to include legacy videos or any ondemand content on the site- period. That has been made obvious already. They've stated numerous times that they're looking to bring back the archives on the fan network site. Not DCI LIVE! Cappybara
So that also, obviously, means there will be another subscription required for the Fan Network... I'd assume as much. Which is why I'm going to save my money to spend on the archive site rather than this live streaming site.
ashevillemurphy
I'll bet the 2015 season will not be "archived" until well into 2016...
drangin
I'll bet the 2015 season will not be "archived" until well into 2016... Why would they offer it soon after when they have DVDs to sell? The bigger problem is the loss of the entire archive library.
chris ncsu
I'm on the fence about the cheaper no-Champs live package -- and it's entirely to do with no DVR. Most of the events are on weekends, which is positive, but I also don't want to basically sit and watch them all live (or time it just right to tune in and rewind/fastforward to the ones I want to see). ashevillemurphy
Why would they offer it soon after when they have DVDs to sell? The bigger problem is the loss of the entire archive library. In previous years after the LIVE shows were broadcast, the "on demand" performances of those events were posted a few hours/days later and remained up on the FN afterwards - that didn't seem to hurt media sales in the past.
