DasTuba
Thus, if we believe that we can compare scores like this, the conclusion we are compelled to have right now is that the Corps, as a collective group, were a bit better last year at this time than they are right now at this time. Which is funny because after the premier show a lot of people were saying things like bluecoats and crown had the best debut shows ever, yet the scores indicate we were all wrong. drumcorpsfever
If you are comparing year over year, scores were much higher this same time last year. Here's just one show from Bowling Green,OH on June 28, 2015 for reference. http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/stats-calendar-recaps/?selMonth=6&selYear=2015 Edited July 1, 2016 by drumcorpsfever
BRASSO
If you are comparing year over year, scores were much higher this same time last year. Here's just one show from Bowling Green,OH on June 28, 2015 for reference. http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/stats-calendar-recaps/?selMonth=6&selYear=2015 Bad example. I really hate comparisons, but since people like to do so, lets compare June 30th ( tonite ) with the exact same show ( Allentown, Pa ) from last year to tonite. The conclusion ( by comparing show scores ) is that Cadets, Phantom, Boston, Crossmen are all far worse than last year at this time. Boston of 2015 for example would have topped Phantom Regiment tonite and have been less than a point from Cadets tonite. Crossmen 2015 would have topped Phantom Regiment tonite and also been less than a point behind the Cadets tonite. Does anybody however believe this ? Well, if they place any stock in the comparison of scores they would be compelled to. Here is the comparison that we want to do on the scores for tonite ( June 30th ) for the Show in Allentown, Pa for 2015 and 2016 : Cadets ( 2015) 79.80....... ( 2016) 72.40 Boston (2015 ) 71.50........( 2016) 64.55 Crossmen ( 2015) 71.40.....(2016 ) 65.60 Phantom Regiment............( 2016 ) 69.10 Bluecoats won tonite at this show with a 74.75. Are we prepared to say that both the Cadets and Crown of 2015 on this June 30th date, at the same Allentown show, are WAY better than the 2016 Bluecoats here tonite June 30th 2016 ? Well.... we would have to... as 2015 Cadets received a 79.80 and 2015 Crown a 79.20 at last years show on this date over the Bluecoats score of 74.75 tonite at this same show on this date. Such a comparison would compell us to say that this years Bluecoats are between 4.5 and 5 points behind the 2015 Cadets and 2015 Crown Corps of last year at this date. I don't actually believe this for a second, but if we are into comparing scores as a valid exercise with some merit, then we'd have to believe this... ...no ? jjeffeory
My theory about what is happening this year is that the judges are using the criteria on the sheets more and basing their score on the box definitions rather than maybe looking at previous scores as a reference THEN sheet criteria and ranking and rating. Of course it could just be my nonsensical thinking.
Clutchtow
That's kinda why I want to see the night to night changes year over year. Sometimes the first derivative is more useful than the initial data
FlamMan
Great stuff DrumCorpsRadio! Very interesting. Thanks for putting the time & effort into compiling this data.

The seasons are off by a full week from last year to this year.
