2000Cadet
OK. wasn't sure since everyone seems to know who he is. if he is on the Cadets staff now, i will come to know about him. Yeah he marched Cadets from 2000-2007.
Sideways
Cadets should shock everyone and perform the logical sequel to their 2007 program..."Shut Up and Play; This I Believe."
Fish
So is anyone gonna talk about the huge amount of staff pickups instead of arguing about Hopkins? And I'm not talking "eh" or "awesome", but real discussion where you back your "eh" or "awesome" up. I'm interested in what people think. For a series of threads that were some of the most active on DCP in the past few years, recent additions to staff seem to have produced a deafening silence.
noahsigs
Alright I have a question that may come across as disrespectful, but I don't mean in that way! In regards to 1984, what was so revolutionary about the Z-Pull? How/why was it different than Zingali's other drill?
kdaddy
So is anyone gonna talk about the huge amount of staff pickups instead of arguing about Hopkins? And I'm not talking "eh" or "awesome", but real discussion where you back your "eh" or "awesome" up. I'm interested in what people think. I think Tom Aungst and Sal Salas are great pick ups. They're both older names, but they're clearly competitive in WGI, and as many lament, DCI designs and WGI designs are starting to blur. As I've mentioned, I think Jeremy Earnhart left a lot to be desired at Phantom Regiment, but perhaps it's the doing of others. And Drew Shanefield had good and bad at Cavies, but I thought he fit in well there in terms of continuing the "Cavies sound." When Cavalier shows were well designed, things were great. When the shows weren't well designed, the opposite happened. I don't know what role he played in that, but it was probably good for both parties that he wasn't with the corps in 2016. Both of these guys could be outstanding, but they both seem like an odd fit at the Cadets that I know (the Marc Sylvester/Jay Bocook Cadets). I've never been a "Cadets or bust" fan, but I really hope they regain what I loved about them in the 90s and spottily through the 00s and 10s. George getting help in coordination is absolutely necessary - I just hope they found the right help.
31rabbit
The Z-pull wasn't so much different from the rest his drill as a Signature Capping of a show, the culmination of the drill theory he'd already introduced.the revolutionary aspect of his drill, and I kind of lack the vernacular to explain it properly, is that it introduced a kind of 'elasticity of the whole.' the idea of forming a shape and then stretching or bending it. the new difficulty of it was that intervals suddenly became more variable between members while still connecting them. it may not 'wow' when compared to things that followed, but you've got to give credit in that Z was the guy who thought up and made prominent that you could Do Such a Thing. corps8294
Hopefully they won't do an "Alice in The Twilight Zone" part III. '05 and '06 were a visual and audio nightmare for the Cadets.

(But yeah, outside of the ballad, 2006 was simply a disaster.)
corps8294
Whenever I saw the Cadets in '06, I thought I was watching a themed furries convention at a drag show. Edited August 28, 2016 by corps8294

It's a masterpiece
