Early on, they also mentioned Alexander Nevsky, but that was dropped. There is additional source music which I've seen mentioned on another site, but since Cadets haven't announced it I won't type it here. (B) The only public discussion by Cadets of any replacement were the reporter's tweets quoting the YEA! chairman of the Board, who indicated they would be discussing options for possibly replacing Sound of Silence at the design meeting last night. (C) I break up the music book into 6 parts. If they choose to delete SoS, it would take rewriting of the following to completely remove it from the brass book: ~25 seconds of Part 1 ~12 seconds of Part 3, or potentially the entire 66 seconds ~82 seconds of Part 5 a few thematic quotes in Part 6 (D) On top of the brass book, there may be additional front ensemble material that would have to go. Also, the four vocalists were primarily focused on SoS, so I don't know what the corps will choose to do with them. Overall concept design would naturally have to be refocused as well, and drill probably rewritten. I don't know whether the planned props and/or costumes would be affected. That seems like too much to change. If the members can endure the hardship this whole thing has put on them, then we the fans should have the maturity to accept and appreciate the music for what it can be and not try to make it about something it isn't about.
corps8294
I understand that the sheets dictate that a show needs to have a story driven theme; but if there was ever a year to go against the grain, for the Cadets, this year would be it. Just put together a great collection of music and put together an awesome show without any attachments to any person or heavy story. 2
xandandl
Cadets just announced that Ed Frenzel, director of the Garfield Cadets (73-76) when they made DCI finals for the first time, passed away. A very good quiet man may he always rest in the peace of the Holy Name. More info on Cadets FB page. They should roll out West Side Story. Seriously. They last did it in '09. They still have the drill and the music from that year on hand; let 'em dust off that version and put it back on the field. They still have their classic unis somewhere in storage. They have a Tresona executive on their new BOD, who can surely work something out w/r/t royalties. Properly executed, the show would make finals. It wouldn't be top six, but as Jeff points out, placement is irrelevant at the moment. Right now they desperately need a hug from the fans. The fans very badly want to be able to respond in kind. Bringing back a classic would make that a whole lot easier. I think many of you need to take a swig of some red bull and gain some confidence and energy. We all understand what the corps is going through, but "when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade." Why should they NOT focus on performing at their best and trying to gain the best placement they can? This IS a competition after all. They did pay to march here, so why not try to make the most of it and have a great season? To give up (as what many of the posts seem to be implying), is to admit defeat. Cadets are not known for that. This desperately needed hug from the fans should not be given. It should be earned. And by going back to music that they've played MULTIPLE TIMES, is doing nothing but pandering and expecting fans to "give" you a hug. NO. I say Cadets should come out and perform the best show with the music they have, the show they intend on performing, and leave all that other stuff off the field. I believe once they're engrossed in the season, focusing on performing their best show, all this other drama will be in the rearview mirror and they will be more focused on their objective for the summer. GO OUT THERE AND PERFORM THIS SHOW LIKE IT IS THE LAST, is what I say to all this lack of confidence I see displayed on this thread. I would suggest beer and pistachios instead!

This is their chance to set the foundation for how great The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps can be with a team that supports the kids on AND off the field. I'm excited to see the fruits of their labors uninhibited by one man's ego. 4

I can hear the critics saying they're pandering for support, exploitation and worse Agree. Show themes with deep meaning, political or social messages are not the way to go. As someone else said, this would be a great year to just put together 4 new works and teach the drill at spring training. Show the world you can learn new music and drill in a short period of time. It might be fun and give the members a nice challenge. I'd love to see them do something fun. I realize that is not very realistic. I'm sure they will cut some of the show music and come up with something nice.
