I remember they went to 135 because they said it would fill three buses.

I remember talk about front ensembles pulling down field numbers too.

Like I said... 128 to 135...

To 150...

+4 this year.

Running out of field space!

If we rolled it back to 128 we could probably field five to ten more corps.  There aren’t enough anymore.  How many world class corps are there?  Twenty?  There used to be hundreds.

They are. It started as a pit and now it’s a canyon.

I'd say props are the cause for a corps "running out of field space" and forcing corps to invest in another 18 wheeler.

Here’s my problem with vocals:  If a corps has a dedicated vocalist like the Bluecoats do this year, Carolina Crown did last year, and the Cadets did last year, it takes one or more spots in the corps from people who play a brass instrument, a percussion instrument, or someone with color guard talent.  People forget vocalists and choir members count against the total number of members permitted on the field.  Brass players, percussionists, and color guard specialists work hard to get good enough to make a world class corps all their teenage years and to be shoved aside to make room for a vocalist — or a choir — would be terrible.

I don’t even like it when my old corps has their brass players sing!

You are certainly welcome to this opinion and I will not argue your point, BUT you might want to consider what Bloo's vocalist adds to their great show...which is MUCH!  She is making the experience BETTER for all of those other 153 performing guard, percussion and brass members.  She is also making the experience BETTER for most of the spectators.  (MUCH BETTER for most I would say.)

I would also point out that Bloo is touring with 154 members on the field plus several alternates.
ALL are getting the experience of a lifetime.

And I say again...thank you Bloo for using a LIVE singer not a pre-recorded version.

Eeh...

Take my comment with a grain of salt.

The truth is that there are (and have been) expanding roles in the ensembles  and they are trying to maintain workable numbers for block drill in field sections when needed.
