Rich Cline
DCI Rose Bowl showdown Review ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flo Marching gets the "Booby" award again. Stream buffered 4 times and after intermision Multi-Cam was locked as High Cam through remainder of show. Can't you guys get it together? That includes the DCI organization. What a bunch of amatuers, after How Many Years? of trying to stream the shows. 1. Santa Clara Vanguard » 78.550 2. Blue Devils » 78.150 3. The Cavaliers » 75.850 Vanguard’s Saturday win was its fifth of the season and fourth against the Blue Devils, but the margin has continued to remain slim. At Clovis, SCV beat the Blue Devils by 0.65 points. The separation between SCV & BD at DCI Rose Bowl was just four tenths of a point. Blue Devils’ ability to keep things tight is attributed to a long stretch of rehearsal time since the corps’ last show six days ago, allowing the 18-time champion a chance to clean their show before heading north on the Northwest leg of their tour. While I'm a huge fan of SCV and have wanted them to score higher over BD in the past, not this year. SCV set the bar so high with their 2018 show that even they cannot match last year's performance. Head To Head Scores SCV vs BD 6-29-2018 Drum Corps at the Rose Bowl as follows: General Effect Santa Clara Vanguard leads Blue Devils in GE by (.60) Visual Overall (SCV 23.950-BD 24.100) Blue Devils by (.150) Visual Proficiency (SCV 16.200-BD 16.500) Blue Devils by (.3) Visual Analysis (SCV 15.900-BD 16.000) Blue Devils by (.1) Visual Color Guard (SCV15.800-BD 15.700) Santa Clara Vanguard by (.1) Music Overall (SCV 23.200-BD 23.250) Blue Devils by (.05) Music - Brass (SCV 15.300-BD 15.200) Santa Clara Vanguard by (.1) Music - Analysis (SCV 15.700-BD 16.000) Blue Devils by (.3) Music - Percussion (SCV 15.400-BD 15.300) Santa Clara Vanguard by (.1) Vanguard had an small edge in general effect while Blue Devils lead in the visual and music captions BD has cleaned a lot of their show since Moonlight Classic on 6-23-19 but still have a glaring error in the opening number where the high brass & low brass don't play together which sets the score in the judges mind how clean BD can play. (Almost sounds like the hornline is fighting itself at times). Great prop use, good field coverage and guard is an integral part of the show. SCV has the more difficult music book but they rely heavily on either very talented solists to carry the bulk of the piece with ensemble backup or they standstill and "Park & Bark". Percussion is solid as usual. Drill stays mainly blocked up front in stationary formations with little field coverage outside their half circle of props. Guard does use the field and the bright contrast of the yellow against the corp's grey is striking, but...... this show in no way matches last year's "Babylon" or 2017's "Ouroboros". Really enjoyed the Cavaliers show but it's clear they along with the other corps are making wholesale changes to the show to improve scores. Much improved over last year where they did not use the props effectively and were tripping over the tarps on the field. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Blue Knights » 72.900 5. Mandarins » 71.850 6. The Academy » 67.200 Not into the Blue Knights Show. Although they finished only (1.05) better than the Mandarins, the head-to-head matchup continues from last season. Really liked the Mandarins show which is much improved brass from last show. They have some "screamer's" this year and the ensemble is playing well together. Good field coverage and guard is working the field. I would like to seem them above the Blue Knights. Definitely the Mardarins are the most improved corps over the last 6 days. Trailing is The Academy. Liked this corps since their 2017 production, "By a Hare". The Academy continues to show improvement and expect to see great things from this corps. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Troopers » 63.250 8. Pacific Crest » 61.850 9. Genesis » 58.150 Sadly, the Troopers have fallen to a new low. Pacific Crest, the host corps in Pasadena and making its first performance was only 1.4 behind Troopers in Music, Tied in Visual and 1.6 behind Troopers in General Effect. Genesis rounded out the Pasadena World Class lineup with a score of 58.150, a slight improvement from last event. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have not seen Bluecoats or Boston since Detroit at Fathom events, but based on DCI scores from past 3 contests on 6-29-2019 it's begining to look like the following ranking of corps: Place Corps Class AVG. MOST LAST 3 RECENT 1 Bluecoats WC 78.583 79.900 2 Boston Crusaders WC 77.100 78.350 3 Santa Clara Vanguard WC 76.617 78.550 4 Carolina Crown WC 76.433 78.300 5 Blue Devils WC 74.800 78.150 Expect to see a lot of shifting in the above top 5 spots but I believe Bluecoats will "Gold Medal" with the best designed show. 6 The Cavaliers WC 74.250 75.850 7 The Cadets WC 73.383 74.450 8 Blue Stars WC 71.667 73.950 9 Mandarins WC 70.533 71.850 10 Crossmen WC 69.650 71.600 Next above group of 5 spots will also shift a lot 11 Spirit of Atlanta WC 69.100 70.150 12 Phantom Regiment WC 67.433 69.200 13 Colts WC 66.167 67.000 14 The Academy WC 65.967 67.200 15 Madison Scouts WC 64.117 65.200 16 Troopers WC 63.000 63.250 17 Music City WC 61.867 62.800 Places 11 thru 15 are tight and up for grabs, but the season is still early Doubt if Troopers can make top 15 but, we'll see. Best of luck to all.

Den8uml
Sorry man any issues with Flo last night were on your end. I had one weird moment where it somehow switched me to the high Can but I put it back to multi and it was fine.
Rich Cline
That is true, I did leave BK out of the rankings but I used DCI's published ranking scores. As of today 6-30-19 BK is not listed. I have called them on this before for leaving out information, but they deny. Go to the webpage and see for yourself. https://www.dci.org/scores/rankings
