July 2nd - Drums Across the Desert ... Tempe, Arizona

Recommended Posts

It seems like the field would have been freshly chalked, knowing they had a show coming up.

Nice big crowd tonight. AZ is hot bed for fans of the activity. Drum corps in July in the Valley?  Never good.  Need to move this indoors.  They have the stadium and Flagstaff does as well.

The NAU Skydome seems like it would be a pretty good venue for a DCI show, even though it’s an indoor dome (a blessing and a curse in this activity). I want to say the state’s marching band championships are held there annually.

BOA has had regionals there too in the past.

Even at night in AZ it's hot. People in the stands are fanning themselves.

My dad used to live on the border of Tempe and Mesa. I was down visiting him one year and couldn’t fly home because they shut the airport down! The temperature was 122° And the weight of the plane were pushing the wheels down into the soft runways that were “melting”.

I was going to say Hell is empty and the Devils are here, but by the looks of the crowd, they might be in hell.
