What is wrong with US?

Only thing wrong with "us" are the gloomy Gus seniors who populate DCP. Drum corps is thriving, and 2024 will see the finest DCI finals ever. Estimated attendance: 24,000. Hopefully minus 50% of the regular contributors to this antiquated forum.

Talk about farting and leaving the room...

Drum corps is thriving? Getting harder to find housing, three top corps (counting SoA) have taken season off due to issues and expenses keep going up just like everywhere else. I’m glad for what we have and surprised the activity still exists as well as it stand today, but have to be realistic

I feel kind of bad about the gloomy part. I’m not gloomy.

Like I posted before I belonged to a city church that closed a few years back. Choice was keep saying everything is ok or being realistic and do the best we could with what we had. It hurt facing facts but times and society changed from the best times of the 1960s (just like the drum corps activity).

Yeah, the drum corps activity isn't thriving; it's surviving. It's a victim of the times and itself. At this point, if a corps folds; let it go. The members and staff can always move on to another organization. Corps have been folding for decades. It's nothing new. It's definitely unfortunate for those who love and follow a certain corps; but it has gotten to the stage where trying to save a severely struggling, borderline folding, or recently folded corps isn't the best thing to do; especially for those corps whom have folded, returned, and folded, again. It's just a waste of resources with little learned from past mistakes and misfortunes.
When there are only a handful of corps remaining; they will probably evolve into something else, anyway. To be honest; I could see what remains of DCI being absorbed by WGI.

I was in one of the oldest drum corps in the country that’s long gone. Norwood Park Imperials founded in 1928.  Kilties juniors were founded in 1934.  Lots of historic drum corps are gone. I think because so many crashed and burned at the same time in the 70’s and ‘80’s that people were desensitized to it.

That’s not to say that it isn’t very sad when we lose any of them. Especially if you’re an alumnus.
