Opening Night!

Recommended Posts

Weather permitting (Big Bird doesn't like getting wet and neither do I) I plan on starting the afternoon at Dream Racing in Las Vegas using the Christmas gift for 10 laps in a Ferrari F430 Scuderia, then over to Sams Town 18 for the show.  All corps interest me at the beginning of the season.

I'll be going to the theater in Fairfield, CA with my wife. Then on Sunday will attend DCI West at Stanford. The result is that by the end of the weekend I will have seen the 2017 shows for all of last year's finalists with the exception of BAC. Good way to start off the first week of the season!

  • They're not showing it in Amarillo this year so I'm gonna have to drive down to Lubbock.
  • All of them?
    • Bluecoats are coming off of their first championship.  How will they handle it?  Will their show be in the same vein as the last few or will it be different?  What will the uniforms look like?  WHAT IS THIS BALLAD EVERYONE AROUND THEM HAS BEEN TALKING ABOUT LIKE???  Will their coats be bloo?
    • Carolina Crown will look completely different.  How will they handle the staff changes?  Will Sacktigs drill be awesome or AWESOME?  How awesome will the brass be?  What is this singer discussion all about?  What IS............IT?
    • The Cavaliers had their best season in five years last year.  How will they come off of that?  Their set of source music is some of my favorite stuff this year being played.  What are those domes?  Will they live up to my hype?  They're going quite ape #### in some of those preview videos they're releasing, will they make me go bananas too?
    • The Cadets are gonna look and sound different this year, what will they be like with a complete design team overhaul?  Will this show be more of a throwback or will it be a fresh take on some familiar music?  What are those skirts?  How will the choir be integrated?  Will I feel blessed?
    • Blue Stars.......I saw that video that floated around.  And it excited me greatly.  How will they elevate this past the cliche Romeo and Juliet show everyone seems to think it will be?  The old gang that gave me one of my all time favorites  in 2010 is back together, will they have that kind of chemistry again?  Are diamonds REALLY a girls best friend???
    • Crossmen had their best season in over a decade last year.  They're bursting with member talent.  Will their show push them to their full potential this year?  Will Markworth strike magic again with his original stuff?  How will their visual changes pan out?  Will this ballad make me transcend existence itself again like last years on first viewing?
  • I am going by myself but meeting some people there.
  • I actually just got certified as a teacher today.......so not yet.  :)

Congratulations!

No one else started one......

We are just a little over a week away from opening night.  This is the first time that I won't make it to the theater since I have to play my own gig that night.

It is also unfortunate that we won't be able to see it any other time than "live" in the theaters.:grrr:

I will have to live vicariously through all of you. So, I will be tracking the comments here on DCP between sets at my gig.  A few questions to start the conversation........

Where are you going to see it?  :peek:

Which corps intrigues you the most?:babies:

Are you going with a group?       :grouphug:

Teachers, are you getting your band students together to see this in the theater?  :grouphug:

Here's to a wonderful kick-off and an amazing season.:guinesssmilie:

I will be seeing opening night from the Rockaway NJ AMC (Usually a pretty good crowd there)

I am intrigued to see everyone because it is the first show of the season

Going solo and staying with tradition I will be scarfing down a traditional drum corps meal at the nearby mall food court before the show; Nathans hotdogs, fries and a coke

Hoping for a great season!!

Lucas Oil, of course Cavaliers never fail to intrigue me, however I am looking forward to seeing how Crossmen will pull off their show and how Blue Stars will bounce back this season with theirs. Also excited to see the beginning of the development of Crown with a new visual team. Cadets, yeah, we'll see what they can do, hope it's positive after last season. Bluecoats...well. Yeah. Excited is an understatement. I'm going with my girlfriend - it'll be her first drum corps event and I hope to hear her jaw drop a few times. Congratulations to all on here with current marching members! Looking forward to a wonderful year.

I will just happen to be in Indy all week for business. Such an unfortunate coincidence! So I'll be in section 140 watching the premier live for the first time instead of the theatre. Super excited!

Looking forward to the all but curious to see how much like old Crown BAC looks like and what kind of drill new Crown and Cadets put on the field.

Most curious to see what Bloo can pull off after last year.

The show that intrigues me most so far is the Cavies

I have to admit my favorite corps is not in the premier but I am looking forward to being there live for the kickoff of what looks to be an interesting summer.

I will join those that have already said it.  Congratulations!

  • May your piano be gentle,
  • May your forte be strong,
  • May your fortissimo stay in tune.

We'll be in Lucas Oil Tin Can (glad every note is so nice since we'll get to hear each one thrice).

Most excited to see Crown and Coats.

No doubt what I'll see from Cadets: Whatever Coats did last year and not what they'll be doing in three weeks.
