  1. Unless that boycott makes an impact, of course ...

  2. The last time SCV won a DCI Title ( 1999 ) they utilized a similar theme revolving around the concept of " inventions ". Their theme that year was " Inventions for a New Millenium ". I really liked that show a lot. SCV fans can only hope that this redo theme on " inventions " gives them the... pardon the pun... the spark they need to enable them to move up this summer.

  3. The "kid" in question is not MM but staff, no? It's like wearing your wedding ring from your first wife after you have married the second.

  4. Where's the issue? I marched in the late 90's with members that came from other organizations/corps and they would wear apparel from those groups. People are proud of where they've come from and respect other organizations, so why criticize the kid?

  5. I saw glimpses of the past in drum corps guards in recent years while watching FN. Troopers paid a tribute (captain in white uniform), SCV's rifle line was very cool (parallel catches), Phantom did a 'Rockford File' like Anaheim Kingsmen too. I noticed. Thanks for the nod and respect. A few years ago a winter guard did a haunting show of old school and new school. I'll try to find the high school guard name in my notes. In 2015 Paramount winter guard started at the left side line (audience view) and ended at right side line like drum corps did in the 1960's and early 1970's. Go guard! They get it

  6. Sorry all, likely wrong topic but this should be seen by as many people as it can be. GoFundMe typically takes 8 or so percent away from the donations marchers recieve as operating costs plus another 3 percent to go to whomever handles the money (in GFM's case, WePay), and this site http://www.youcaring.com/, only takes the 3 percent to distribute money as well as offering PayPal as an option too. For anyone looking to fundraise, this is a far better idea than GoFundMe. I estimate ive lost 80 or 90 bucks to GoFundMe that could have been put towards fees.

  7. This sounds great, people who have been wanting them to get away from the throwback/retro kinda shows the past few years should be pleased. If you had asked me if Vanguard would be playing "Pure Imagination" I'd have called you crazy. I love the fact they're doing something that I wouldn't typically associate with them (Phantom Regiment 2005 anyone?) Couldn't find Virus Attack anywhere, bought it on itunes. That's going to be VERY interesting to see how they put it on the field. That's a great opportunity for them to use some electronics in a piece that's built around them. This show can and should be because of its thematic nature....innovative. Lots of really cool directions they could take this, a lot. Tesla's a bad ###, my feelings of which are very well summed up in this comic. http://theoatmeal.com/comics/tesla I'm really excited about this, Pure Imagination and Virus Attack could prove to be very cool and fresh pieces for them.

  10. And they did "Eureka!" In 2007 so they seem to "reinvent" themselves every 8 years.

  11. I think the predictions thread can be fun, but it's not to be taken seriously. There seem to be only a few consistent elements on it so far - that Cadets are going to have an incredible musical show (because we've heard clips) and that BD will be at or near the top because they almost aways are. When I want to know about the upcoming DCI season I contact the Psychic Friends Network but it's getting a bit expensive.

  13. When I'm watching a drum corps in person, I prefer right down front every time, but if I'm watching a video, given a choice between the high camera or a lower camera, I'll almost always pick the high cam view of the show.

  16. i see nothing wrong with wearing the CWP jacket. where you march in the winter really has no bearing on your corps in the summer. it's a different world. geography plays a far greater role in the choice of winter programs for most performers. (and anyone affiliated with CWP can and should be #### prould of their accomplishments in their 1st two years. what they've done is pretty much unparalleled in WGI )

  17. I dunno now. I'm not so sure you can count on BD being in the top 5 this year. Something or other to do with having family day in a ghetto and humidity. You know Karma and what not.

  18. 1. start working out. it is an intense act of will to hold those things chest-high for as long as you're going to need to do so. forearms o's steel. 2. all about the hand/foot timing. practice clapping triplets while marching in place. cymbals are cool, but can be incredibly taxing at a high level. best of luck.

  19. Garfield, it pains me to point out that Aristotle was a Greek, and marched in the fourth century BC. The Greeks were basically G7 until about the first or second century AD, long after Aristotle aged out. They then dropped to open class for the next couple millennia. Now, the Romans were medaling until about 400AD, before going inactive due to poor management and Huns.
