  1. I'll add this to the list of things I'm told cost them the championship which, if I'm not mistaken, now includes everything on earth but the three corps that beat them.

  2. No, actually 4 of last years staff is returning, including his daughter, in hopes of keeping vets I'm sure (who are probably not happy about Bruno and the other staff being let go). Plus it seems like several people that have been with Kristy Templin for years. I certainly hope that they have the expertise for this level. This isn't high school. Reading the bios, I'm not so sure.

  3. OK... not quite sure how "corps and corps members causing trouble" equates to attendance at shows.

  5. RESPONSE TO AN EARLIER POST - I wore the 84 uniform you described with the White Eisenhower Jacket and Green pants… I also wore the 81/82 uniform of Green top, Green Pants with Red Sash. I REALLY LOVE the hybrid of these that the Scouts came back to this year with the White pants/Green Top with Red Sash…to me, that is CLASSIC Madison… it includes elements from every generation of uniforms back to the early 70's… I hope they stick with this for the foreseeable future.

  6. alpsman, DCA offered 4 bands, free tickets to the 2015 preliminary show, the only band to show was the band from the farthest away. Go figure, I don't think there are many solutions to the attendance problem other than opening the front gate to any and all who want to attend for free. And you know what, I don't think that there would be any more people then! AND there would still be complaints about something. Sadly OUR brand seems to be fading and that is a shame.

  7. These are all perfect examples of why us educationally minded drum corps that are concerned with being good role models for our young adults are trying so desperately to put these stories behind us! Dan

  8. LOL I heard some Pittsburgh Rockets stories from before our times John..... "Ham and Eggs" IIRC Steel City was Ham and forget which local brew was eggs..... "You want Ham or Eggs?" Then the classic detour one bus took to pick up a member at a street corner in the 'Burgh. Guy gets on and someone says "Thought your wife wasn't going to let you go." Response: "bleep her, she thinks I'm going to get a loaf of bread." Edit: Heard some good Westshoremen stories from before my time. One of the reasons why staff was scared crapless when a bunch of us High Schoolers joined in 74...

  9. Cadets '92-'93 Phantom '93-'94 SCV '97, '99-'00 ('98 does not really do it for me, but '97 was a brilliant ballad to end with)

  10. aren't the Blue Knights using Jupiter as well? I thought their hornline sounded pretty darn good the past 2 years so I'm not sure it's all the brand of horns fault for Phantom dropping in scores/placements,etc.

  11. What appears clear from the letter is that Bruno's involvement with the guard was ended by George while offering to keep him on in his admin role. And then Bruno's response was to end his involvement. Trying to read between those lines that xandandl referred to.

  12. Teal Sound.... utilized Rock Guitars in the World Class Division DCI Field competition for the first time, a few years back. That was a first, imo. I have no idea how the Rock Guitar performance execution is judged, nor what caption judge judged the playing that season, nor what the judges training, qualifications are on the proper playing technigues, sound quality, to come from the Rock Guitar instrument and from the Corps Rock Guitar performers. My guess, nobody else here can say for certain either.( haha!). Its a leap of faith when it comes to DCI judging and how they do their thing. Same as it ever was. But Teal Sound's utilization of Rock Guitars was " unexpected " for me. Heck, I did not even know DCI had approved this musical instrument for Field competition, until I saw it being judged on the field that season. Thats how " unexpected " it was for me as a long time fan when I saw it for the first time out there.

  18. 100% concur. The Rubbermaid tubas... I mean Jupiter... are just awful. I love the 1121 Mellophone. I don't even play mello and I can scream out ridiculously high notes and drop pedals like crazy. Seems to me the 1121 Mello is based on an early Zig Kanstul design.
