  1. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! I hope everyone here has a safe and wonderful holiday!

  2. This statement brought me to a point where I had to post; on Christmas of all days!!! Here is a quote describing but one of a plethora of reasons why the innocent need the protection of privacy: “My father and I were very close. I feel the pain of his absence every day, as does every son who has loved his father. There were a thousand secret private things between him and me that I alone had known and I alone will miss about the man who was my dad.” - Daniel Krauthammer People who believe that only the guilty are the individuals in need of privacy protection frighten me to the depths of my soul. No-one outside of Daniel and his father, not his mom, nor his wife, nor any of his other family, nor his boss at work, nor his place of employment, nor the Government should be allowed access to the secret private things he shared with his dad. And if our culture is moving toward a willingness to relinquish our innocent private matters for the sake of employment, the access to entertainment, or the laziness of voice activated internet, then we deserve to be thought-police-controlled by those who want that power of access over our lives!

  6. I said this in another thread, but i'll repeat it here: Funny you mention this. I was talking to someone today who thinks the reporter has some agenda and wondered why I’ve been such a hard ### towards dan, the board, the corps etc. its easy. Whenever there’s been criticism what’s the power brokers standard reply? “ it’s for the kids” “ don’t criticize, you’ll hurt the kids”. well, until May 2018 the collective powers that be, including Dan, the board, the corps boards, and so many others IGNORED this issue and allowed way too many KIDS get hurt by people that shouldn’t have been around. Like we see with the Catholic Church, tell them to leave but don’t block them from being involved. Sweep it under the rug. Teaching license suspended? No biggie I know you can make my horn line better. It’s been the worst kept secret for decades, and enough people had to know specifics, and did nothing. We know people reported stuff before last year, and it was ignored or worse, people were threatened to stay silent. but yet it’s all supposed to be about the kids right? That’s what those at the top have stressed repeatedly. Kids, kids, KIDS!! yet when someone did anything sexual with a kid, either in or out of dci but was allowed to work there, the safety of those same kids was ignored. that is why I continue to demand people be held accountable for past inaction. Yeah it could take down some big names. In fact I’ve been suspicious of some resignations and their rationale the last 18 months. I am glad dci is taking steps. I truly believe in any restructuring the inmates should not be in charge of the asylum. None of them have earned that right..... because despite their mantra of “ the kids”, they’ve proven their safety really wasn’t as important as they claimed.

  7. The more I think about it, the more obvious it is. And I know I'm not the only one here who feels this way either. We can talk all day about hiring practices and removing people from their positions of power, we can parse every word of press releases and news articles, and we can go round and round on what the future of DCI holds. To me, the essential issue at hand is this: DCI must restructure their organization into a proper body of governance. The current model, while it may have suited their needs in 1972, simply does not work in 2018. It creates more problems than it solves and no matter what new rules or policies they come up with, if the current power structure of corps directors being in charge and the CEO being basically an empty suit just won't cut it anymore. This is an organization in dire need of an independent board of directors and true CEO, people from diverse backgrounds and experience, who can bring real qualitative oversight to the activity for the first time. As it is, the conflicts of interest which exist in the power structure of DCI does not lend itself to prosperity. Of course, I do not expect any of this to happen. The way I see it, if news of sex scandals arise at every single DCI corps in the coming months, the current DCI board would never in a million years even remotely consider a restructuring process. I truly believe they consider such a thing to be unthinkable. That's part of why they continue to get themselves into these messes to begin with. They arrogantly believe they can figure all this stuff out on their own and govern themselves. Well, clearly, that's been shown time and again that it's untrue. How would all of this restructuring work? I have no idea. How long would it take? I have no idea. All I know is that there is too much at stake to not take a serious look at organizational restructuring. These are the questions the reporters should be asking them. Why is DCI run this way? Does it still make sense in 2018? Aren't there clear conflicts of interest when it comes to the current power structure? What is the point of having a completely powerless CEO? Is there any discussion about restructuring into more of a governing body? If not, WHY NOT? All these terrible stories we've been hearing about over the last several months, and the ones I'm sure are just around the corner, make me believe that there really is one way to at least begin the journey for DCI to move forward and be a force of betterment for the activity and all its participants. They need to bring a wrecking ball to the current operational model and start over. It may just be their only hope.

  9. It is not the Auto Insurance Companies responsibility to care if the kids are safe or not on DCI Tour however. Its not their business, 'not their calling.. Thats the responsibility of DCI and the Corps themselves to keep the kids as safe as humanly possible. . Besides, kids " on DCI tour " have no bearing at all on either the kid's driving record, nor on the family's auto Insurance rates. Unless the kid was driving one of the Corps vehicles ( doubtful ) that was involved in an accident that required an Insurance payout. its typically the Corps Commercial Auto Insurance Policy that pays for the damages and injuries to those injured in ( say ) a Corps Bus accident on tour. Not the MM's Family's Personal Auto Insurance Policy. Parents of MM's today are in no danger of having their family's auto insurance rates go up, nor their kid dropped from the family's auto Insurance policy as a result of anything that happens on a DCI 9 week summer tour, Bluzes.

  13. Drug test is one thing and putting anyone on full HIPAA rights is another. Irony is talking about privacy being for guilty only yet many of us do not use our proper names to keep personal info protected

  14. hah! I recall being somewhere around mile 5 or so and some drunk lady made it past whatever rope was lining the street. Stumbled toward our director who was walking alongside us near my rank slurring, "I'm gonna joooooin the maarrchin' baaaaand." Our director froze, never seen him freak out about anything but that had him frozen. About that quick she was enveloped by the white suits of parade security. We laughed about that for years and would walk up behind him and slur out "I'm gonna join the marchin' band!" Just to annoy him.

  15. exactly. it will never be possible to keep them out entirely. but we can make it harder, and we can hopefully see the corps feet held to the fire to do the right thing.

  16. When SCV did the parade in ‘04 we trooped up Del Mar (that is the big freeway overpass) to Orange Grove where they “fold” you into the parade between the floats where Del Mar & Orange Grove intersect in a “T”. This is is a high-zoot residential area where lots of people are usually passed out in lawn chairs from the night before. The dudes on scooters monitored us as we got in the street, then the DMs took it up a notch. Full block right there at the T-intersection, tight dress, get some warm air into horns, hat brims down, feathers up, ready front (scwack!) SCV bad-assery on high, command given, 4-count “real” high mark time with horn up on 1, then nuclear bomb with 145 brass doing Procession of the Nobles at full “good” volume (not blatt) echoing off the houses. I actually saw (probably hungover) people fall backwards out of their chairs and heard some bystanders shout, “OMG, bands NEVER play for us this early!!” We did...the whole book...the drumlines was on, too. Gooooood Morning, Pasadeeeena...!!! We made a lot of new fans that morning.

  17. I marched the Jan 1, 1988 version. It was a long parade. In addition to the length, there's also the march from the staging area to to official start. People line up along there too...and since we were midwestern nice, we played for them too. You'd be surprised how chilly it feels at 4 AM in the wind, we were glad for our wool uniforms at the time and trash bags over them. The band from Hawaii next to us just had these crazy thin uniforms. We were planning to rip the bags off and just dispose of them but we'd been talking with the kids from Hawaii while waiting to step off and our drum major made the call, "Ten-hut". Hats off. Now carefully pull your trash bag off and pass it down to the right guide." Hawaii's Drum major "Ten-hut! Hats off! Please say thank you for the bags as we've got another 30 minutes or so of waiting!"

  18. You know I LOVED the mello sustain...but call me an old timer dino I went back and listened to Phantom 2007 and the mello sustain at the end of THAT show was WAY more impressive for numerous reasons. Not to take away from a GREAT Vanguard show but....in the big picture...it was good.

Related Products MORE Criminal Law: A Desk Reference Legal Research The Criminal Law Handbook Related Ads Answer A defendant may decide, after consulting with counsel, to waive the prelim. This allows the case to proceed to trial (though not immediately). The reasons the defense might waive the right to a preliminary hearing include: The defendant intends to plead guilty and wants to avoid publicity (and expense, if the defendant is represented by private counsel). more at link https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/when-does-sense-waive-the-preliminary-hearing.html
