  1. A peanut butter and jelly eating contest and a Gail Royer lookalike contest might be fun. Maybe Don Pesceone coming back from the dead and slapping the holy bejeezus out of Dan Acheson saying "WTF did you do?" Ok, that one's a little far fetched. Maybe just one of those Strongman punching bag machines with Acheson's face on the target,

  2. And if there is any scandal that could bring Acheson down, this is it. The lack-of-anniversary-transparency scandal.

  3. The individual in question, prominent in the activity since the 1980s, has disappeared from the activity. Also, surprisingly, the individual was nowhere to be seen in the funeral video of the DCI HOF & Founding Father that gave the individual their first Drum Corps job. It does make me wonder if DCI quietly banned the individual, or if there is some sort of self-banishment underway?

  4. That’s a new twist I didn’t know about. If I recall correctly it was phrased as one of those “wants to spend more time with family” resignations.

  5. She’s covering abuse in cheerleading with Marisa Kwiatkowski at USA Today now. I would think a much larger issue due to sheer numbers.

  6. I agree - but do individual victims know how to contact other victims? We are talking a period of 30+ years and (at least) 2 Corps. There would need to be someone like Tricia Nadolny to help connect the dots. And I know she tried but evidently there wasn’t enough material to publish.

  7. Sadly SCV, a few years back, had a previous Director that had to be pulled of the road during tour and "resigned" after the season ended.

  9. Just read a local story of a woman who does in home health care. She knew kids in one home she visited were being abused (no details given) but said nothing. As she is a mandated reporter, charges were filed against her. That story needs to go to DCI, the corps with a three word message “don’t #### around”.

  10. One of DCI's problems (among many) is their lack of transparency and communication. There has been virtually nothing from them about special events/performances they are planning for the 50th. Isn't is time for Mr. Acheson to step down? DCI needs a major shake-up, starting at the top.

  12. Safety in numbers. If a group of survivors came together like the Cadets women, there wouldn’t be as much of a feeling of isolation.

  13. Yes - the ostracism is bad enough when a member/victim is in a perennially13th or lower placed Corps. I can only imagine what it would be like for a member/victim of two multi-year champions & perennial contenders came forward. Granted, that happened w/ Cadets, but there were so many victims, plus an investigative reporter & a district attorney involved that is blunted some of the victim-shaming. And even then there were attempts at it.

  14. Not one survivor will speak publicly about this. I understand why considering what has happened to survivors who have come forward in the past. The ostracism is soul-crushing. It is frustrating, though, considering the horror stories heard by just about everyone.

  15. Not true - this individual still judges high school marching band competitions (as recently as 2021). Still goes to drum corps shows, as well.

  16. Not exactly 100% same. But there's a story in northjersey.com about a former student at Tiger Schulmann in NJ suing over alleged sexual abuse by an instructor. What's unusual is that the suit is against the company and franchises where the instructor worked. But not against the instructor. Depending on the specifics of the suit, this could have ramifications for other abuse cases, including drum corps. Its an interesting read.

  17. I heard a rumor about the Couchmen, but apparently the source has been sitting on it for years.

  19. Unfortunately, when you have a serial narcissist in charge who also happens to have toxic masculinity issues, it's just a breeding ground for all of the actions that should cause you to get your brakes beaten off you. And yet somehow, they seem to get away with it for more than people want to admit to.

  23. ⁷ I am confused. Why does this article state that Boston is in Ohio on July 2nd when my schedule has them in two Massachusetts shows on July 2 and 3?

  24. All you had to do was look at the Glassdoor reviews of YEA to see what a toxic workplace it was …but we don’t want to talk about that. Abuse is abuse. Women were called derogatory names for being overweight as if that had anything to do with their work performance in an office environment. It’s right there on Glassdoor. Or at least, it was.

  26. Speaking of a two week tour, they couldn’t even control bad behavior in that short amount of time. Thanks for reminding me.
