dbc03
That's it? It was just making something legal that was already assumed to be legal? How is this the huge power play that people made it out to be?
MikeN
From what I understand, that's *not* the news - that was from the meeting in January. There's a lot more going on *this* weekend. Mike

Ex VK DM
According to the DCW Fcebook post "We will report on what went on -- as we understand it -- in the June issue, and then plan to continue to expand upon the story online as news becomes available." So when does the June issue come out?

Michael Boo
Here's the scoop:Among the six new rules passed by the Drum Corps International voting membership at its annual business meeting at the Indianapolis Westin on Saturday, January 23, one may have a profound influence on the future of the junior drum and bugle corps activity. Passage of a pre-show proposal, authored by The Cadets’ director, George Hopkins, will now permit corps to use any device -- including recorded music and illegal instruments -- prior to the start of their formal judged program. ...[/url] That's not quite a scoop. This article I wrote was posted on DCI.org back on January 23rd,followed a few hours later by this article about the final vote. A line in the first article stated, "The major changes were in the development of less specific language regarding what can take place during the allocated time, with no limits placed on the creative elements eligible for those five minutes..." A line in the second article stated, "In short, the corps will be able to utilize that pre-show time however they may wish." None of this should be a surprise all these months later, unless we experienced a mass .

bananaboyz
The big corps, with big egos could also be making a big mistake. I am sure some old schoolers would enoy some corps staying local on shorter tours who know, maybe back the future in some respects. Do not discount it either, for I am sure some would come out for a show with every corps having a fighting chance to win every night. Those who choose to create a devide might find out the grass not always greener or for long, and once you become a big fish in a smaller pond where do you go? Had to smile about the new coke comment. Just a sidebar truth be told the original version of Coke was made with REAL sugar. Prices on sugar was gettng out of hand and Coke wanted to make a switch but knew the public would go batty. So they came out with the new coke, and also started making the NEW - Original Coke with the new sweetner and stocked it. When back on the market with the so called original brand they were able to move as most focused on the bashing of why they had to change to begin with in the first place while saving millions of dollars on sugar costs, transportation. etc. One has to wonder does the magnificent seven have a back up plan for failure? Its bad enough DCI is the modern day form of Hockey when it comes to finals since there are few corps who are still around in number to begin with. As far as the woodwind comments, its not drum corps.
Abbevillekid26
The arguing and personal attacks over improbable, hypothetical situations is exactly why I love reading threads on this forum.
