xandandl
Agreed - their movement was really awkward - it just didn't look right on the members. Same problem the year before. When you compare them with BD, Crown and Vanguard - their movement style and written book is a huge step backwards. Later, Mike and yet he keeps his daughter as the movement choreographer... What works on a small stage for dance enthusiasts doesn't always translate well in the NFL size stadiums DCI uses, amongst other perspectives.
xandandl
Patrick Duncan announced on FB that he will not be returning to Cadets viz staff for 2016. He's been great for the corps on and off the field since he aged out almost a decade ago.
corps8294
and yet he keeps his daughter as the movement choreographer... The rest of the guard staff gets a post season pink slip; but she is retained. Must be something about her last name.

Katie Hopkins has always had the respect of everyone in the Cadets. This is because she works as hard as everyone else, she's talented and she earns her place. Katie is a great dancer and teacher. She is not the only person retained from the previous guard staff.

She is very talented, works well with gbe kids and should not be dragged into the mud because of her dad's less than diplomatic moves at Cadetland. Of course, if they win in 2016, these discussions become moot.
Jeff Ream
knowing several of the individuals in the press release, I say let time tell the tale.

The question is the result on the field in terms of the movement and choreography, not whether she is a nice person and friend. My only dealings with her in the past decade are positive; when someone I sponsored had to return home after the first week of tour due to major health in immediate family problems and younger siblings to be cared for; she organized a phone tree and daily call-in to make sure that that Cadet had emotional support from corps members all summer and was not forgotten. That charity will never be forgotten. That said, the discussion is about field results and pleasing the score sheets. Agreed but her part in design is part of an entire concept and stylistic approach that should come from caption head and I feel overall guard "design, style and spproach" has been off for years. To me, Cadets should have have more sophisticated body movement with the equipment work. The corp uniform dictates what is appropriate. CBCCG dancing just always looked forced. Do what is appropriate for Cadets, not a list of obligatory moves.BTW, I meant to write "the" kids, how gbe kids got passed autospell is 😤😤 Edited September 30, 2015 by Tobias
2000Cadet
So many assumptions made on this thread. I have a habit of reading what's on the page, and not "between the lines" when it comes to drum corps.
