I hate to say it, but I really think they missed the mark on which voice to use for that solo. Think it would have sounded much better from a mello. Might it be he just isn't comfortable as a soloist yet? I know, it's CC and just about everyone is probably good enough to play a solo, but maybe another player is needed.
