IMO SCV's 2017 show is very like a 2000s Cavaliers show...

There's some good drill out there this year - and some very bad drill aka "scatter/staging" nonsense

I agree with the OP we need more "wow" moments from the drill writers!

Wait... REALLY! This makes me even more excited to see SCV.

Flashy drill is terrific so long as the music doesn't suffer.

I was watching some shows today when a moment from Cavaliers stood out to me, the audience gave a hearty applause for just drill. Drill needs to make a comeback, great drill equals great effect.

Amen..after all DCI's moniker is "Marching's Major League" marching should be a given, but alas

Nahhhhhhh…. Been there done that stuff like mesmerizing drill and glorious music is Baddddddd!!!  New and Progressive is the only thing Great Gig in the Sky now!!!   Do something never done like levitation, oops been done, oh, dancing bears, oops again, stages and props, darn, ummm, lights, shoot, uhhhh, synths and voice overs, dang it, oh, oh, oh, I got it!!! Have a corps secure the visual artist Lady GaGa uses live on stage at some shows; the artist ‘paints’ the stage with colors of vomit, no kidding, that is true and that is progressive stuff!!!  So, there ya go DCI, keep on progressing forward and forget about all the old dino stuff!

And Boston has added burning a cgm to the prop list this year.

it'll go back. Remember the cry when body first started happening? Then it chilled out for a while and run and gun took things to a new level. Now theres still some there, and body, and scatters and props. and soon you'll see things continue to cycle around

Glad someone mentioned Phantom. They're still dirty but their drill has some incredible moments this year

I'm finding a ton to like drill wise this year.

  • Santa Clara Vanguards whole show needs no explanation........the building block into that fake hit in the ballad is my favorite visual moment of the year.
  • I really like Bluecoats drill this year, the FTL under the stage stuff is very cool, and the low brass sprinting down that ramp at the end is pretty dang fun to watch.
  • Carolina Crown has some great Sacktig moments.
  • Cavaliers whole visual program is INCREDIBLY fun to watch, especially from up high.  The end of Little Green Men right before the ballad is insane, that's about as run and gun as I've seen in recent years.
  • Boston Crusaders has incredible clarity, the part leading into the ballad is super fun to watch.
  • Phantom Regiments visual program is actually pretty fantastic to watch, very traditional overall with some modern touches.  Some incredibly beautiful sets and sequences.
  • Blue Stars whole show.
  • Mandarins Rorschach test drill throughout the show is really cool.
  • Pacific Crest has some really cool moments.
  • Genesis's drill is incredibly difficult and incredibly fun to watch.
  • Legends show had some very exciting high velocity moments in the 2nd production and closer.

I can say a lot more about drill this year than most years.

@MotoSurfBass thanks for giving me my 10,000th like on my posts.
