Thursday, August 11th “DCI World Championship PRELIMS” Lucas Oil Stadium Indianapolis, INDIANA

Ok, hang on to your hats.  Spartans the first of the Big Four for open class.  All four were OUTSTANDING.  Spartans was running ahead of BDB coming in to Marion and got passed, but barely.

Spartans have a very Bluecoats sound and feel in some ways.

I would love to see in writing the International Class rules, but I'm not certain that it exists.

That.

It's where DCI truly plays Calvinball sometimes.

They were competing in Soundsport and the Drum Battles for a few years prior to the pandemic and cleaning up.

And they followed the Soundsport and the Drum Battles.

Compete on the field at DCI Championships against DCI Corps, follow the DCI rules.

OK, whenever the announcer said, here are scores from the first block, then FloMarching cut away and didn't let us hear those scores.  Did I miss them, posted on the screen?  --I broke to read DCP posts!!  They are not on DCI yet--could we start a post with the scores updated as folks have them? Thanks!

You've got to talk to DCI about that.

Again, its not the first time "international class" has been used for groups coming in from outside the US to perform and get scored.   2015 had two from Asia.  I suspect if Calgary Stampede has been doing Soundsport and Drumline battle, and are thinking of fielding an open class corps (by the rules) in the near future, they may have approached DCI about their existing show band testing the waters.

DCI, sensing the possiblity of having another corps, and a Candian corps at that, said, "Well we have this 'international class' thing... *wink wink*  in an effort to entice them to make the leap to an Open class corps adhereing to the Open Class standards in the future.

In the same way they probably had these Asian groups contact them about touring in the summer, who may have well been in contact with BOA but looking for a summer circuit and got referred to DCI. DCI could have gone  "oh...'international class' is a thing..." to be encouraging and trying to capture some international flavor to their name still.  They've not been back since.

If Calgary Stampede starts showing up regular or touring in DCI with Woodwinds using the International Class...then yeah time for questions.
