Thought everyone gave strong performances except for Cadets and Blue Stars who both really seemed to be having trouble at this point in the season performing the designs they have been given. That said, my enjoyment of Crown was seriously diminished because one of their guard instructors was standing about seven or eight feet to our left recording his critique of the performances on his phone. Very loudly. He was loud during the soft parts and practically screaming during the big hits. I know this is common practice in DCI for the staff to make tapes for the kids to listen to, but he had no awareness that he was surrounded by paying customers who only get to catch one or two shows during the summer. Extremely irritating. He would have gotten his *** chewed out by me if he were near me! I hate this kind of stuff. you pay to see a show and staff comes in and just talks all through it. not cool. Subjective opinions about what constitutes Drum Corps G.E. or what is considered hardcore porn are pretty interesting.....LOL To paraphrase the Supreme Court, "We shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material we understand to be embraced within that shorthand description ["GE"], and perhaps we could never succeed in intelligibly doing so. jwillis35 Posted July 19, 2016 Share Posted July 19, 2016 No. Corps can finish 6th, 7th in brass or drums and win a DCI Title, but can't do it if the overall GE score is below 3rd.....or their Guard.. in modern times, anyway. The weirdest score was a Corps that won the Percussion caption in the Prelims at DCI Championships one year,. 1st in all 4 percussion subcaptions, & with both DCI Percussion judges too. But their entire Percussion section had to buy a ticket to Finals ( or get a freebie ), as their Corps failed to make Finals Top 12. Thats unreal, imo. ( 1977. It was the Oakland Crusaders, from Canada). Yeah, that's one of those "weird" scoring anomalies, but well deserved from what I heard. I actually saw them live in Canton, OH in 1979. Bluecoats in those days were competing in the Div II/III format. Not sure if I have this straight, but was that Oakland Crusaders line and early Tom Float line before he went to Blue Devils? Extremely irritating. If Crown doesn't know then they can't stop it from ruining the next show for someone. afd Posted July 19, 2016 Share Posted July 19, 2016 I'm not whining, nor am I denying the fact that the Blue Devils are talented. Just the majority didn't enjoy most of their recent shows in recent years. Honestly, there's only two shows I've ever really liked by BD. 98 and last year. I certainly don't like the K-Pop thing they've been doing, but they do it well. They're talented, just not very audience friendly here recently it seems. That's your interpretation. You are whining.
