  1. Show Theme/Music: Mid March is usual reveal time for music or composers at least. Show theme usually comes Mid to late May as the group is convening for pre-tour. But these could all be pushed back as the new trend goes. Uniforms: Will he the modular one's from last year with the show theme featured. Wait until early June for this, they are going to do the same reveal as last year. side note: they are currently very focused on the 3 WGI ensembles that are in season.

  3. I had just happen to drive down there with a rental I had to pick up something from that Jersey Gardens mall and I thought, "I should stop down for an italian hot dog" and behold, there was the spot a few minutes away. Needless to say, I was a fat kid that weekend. I love history.

  4. I've taken a look at some Top 12 990s. I completely agree that some are one flat tire away from ruin at times. But to even start the cycle of a horn contract, the initial money needs to be fronted. I don't know if manufacturers will ship on a payment plan. So the first year of a contract is the most expensive, especially if the previous horns don't sell whatsoever. Obviously this can be offset by capital campaigns, crowdsourcing, and member fund raisers. The bottom line is, the first year in a contract is a steep price to pay. A corps with low brand recognition or placement may not be able to sell horns every year and therefore may never recover the initial costs. Corps in the perennial Top 5 have their horns often bought and paid for by fans, band directors, and other corps before summer tour even begins.

  6. Sort of reminds me of this exchange in the movie The Breakfast Club: Brian: You wear tights? Andrew: I wear the required uniform (for wrestling). Brian: Tights. Andrew: SHUT UP!!

  8. There are three main ways to maximize funding within a non-profit setting; you need to engage in all three; they are all difficult as well as complicated... so much so that the information is way too lengthy to provide in a forum such as this. They are Patrons, Grants, and Business Ventures.

  9. So when I raised close to $80,000 dollars last year for a local non-profit I was too stupid and I know nothing about fund raising. Okay. you got me on that one.

  10. If you desire to respond to a single person that is what PM is for; but by posting on a general thread it is thus open to all who desire to respond. So far all I have sought is consistency with your premise and you have responded by telling me to drop dead, to go away, and that I am boring. Interesting responses.

  11. Not that complicated; but neither creative nor highly effective as a mechanism for funding. Try again.

  12. Ummm... what you mentioned above is, "Sometimes things are not as complicated as we'd like them to be". Yep; this lengthy rambling convoluted paragraph of yours sure does adhere to that premise!

  13. A buddy who marched with me in DCA's Sunrisers 1981-82 was with Cadets through the 1970s, aging out in 1980. He was one of the crew that drove to pick up the new recruits from down South (Mississippi, I think?)... he said that influx of members literally saved the Cadets. The corps was on the ropes big-time that offseason until then. Quite a comeback story that season... and the rest, as the saying goes, is history.

  14. Your response to the inquiry posed by OP is to state that raising millions of dollars each year is not that complicated; and preface it by implying that the corps staff merely needs to rob banks, because that is where the money is at, and then hope they do not end up in prison. Nice.

  15. suite judy blue eyes. why not? the harmonies are vintage crosby, and could be gorgeous for brass.

  17. As long as it continues in the positive direction of last year's show, I'm good.

  18. I've never heard this version, only the Eagles version. After hearing this though, I'd start off with the orchestration this is in, then end with a brass only hit with the ending of the eagles version. Good good stuff.

  19. Maybe have to include Black Gold for Oklahoma, since they did make DCI top 25 a couple of times. Also, the Enid Legionettes All-Girls were a very successful Oklahoma corps in the 50s and 60s.

  20. I remember the house in Teaneck where they all lived. Kids would stay there, staff in and out. It was a Cadet think tank. Staff lived Cadets, they didn't teach anyone else or do anything else. No surprise those were the years Cadets rose from almost extinction to the formidable presence it is now 30+ years later.

  21. Remember that Spirit hailed from Alabama for ten years. They could rate as best ever for two different states. Edit: The same might apply for the top Pennsylvania junior corps, whether you pick Cadets or Crossmen for that honor.

  22. Moving forward An opportunity for both genders to enjoy our family. Soundsport does not even know what is about to hit them. Rockin for a Cure is next month, things are about to get juicy! The 2017 Madison Scouts, Soundsport, The Madison Scouts Alumni Corps, Jim Ott Brass Ensemble Thirdcoast, The Big Payback. Yep, moving forward!

  23. Yea, that's the story. I just don't agree with it. I can perfectly see a corps having the best hornline, guard. percussion while also having a bad show design.

  26. BD leaves rehearsal for the show at the same time as Pioneer when Pioneer goes on 2-3 hours earlier and BD is likely closer to the housing site? What does BD do when they get to the show 5-6 hours before they take the field?

  28. Maybe have to put Oregon Crusaders with Argonauts. My home state of Minnesota would have to be the St. Paul Scouts. Kansas would be a tossup between Argonne Rebels and Sky Ryders.

  29. A noted academic Psychologist from a renowned Ivy League University once went to do an in depth study of the inner workings of the mind of a notorious thief and bank robber( Willy Sutton ) to find out what made him tick, and to find out some of the deep analytical motivations behind his years of criminality, as perhaps a future way to understand what makes a criminal like Willy do these things. Was it perhaps a repressive, non nurturing, non loving upbringing ? Was it perhaps something hereditary ?.. or perhaps his environment of poverty ? Or something else, even more deeper, sinister ? So the Psychologist met with Willy Sutton in the Prison Library, and after a few pleasantries of words were exchanged to have Willy relax and feel comfortable so that he would reveal his deepest, darkest, thoughts... the Psychologist asked Willy...... " So Mr. Sutton, take your time on this, but could you answer me this question... as I'd really like to know.... Mr. Sutton, why do you rob banks ? Willy Sutton reportedly looked at the Psychologist with a very befuddled, confused look on his face... then replied..... " You are asking me why I rob banks ? ( The psychologist nodded his head slowly.. ..yes ). Willy then replied... " Because that's where they keep the money. " Sometimes things are not as complicated as we'd like them to be, imo

  30. New Jersey Part Deux: Hawthorne Muchachos and Newark Woodsiders. Hawthorne's junior needs no introduction, Woodsiders were a Newark junior corps that received an influx of St Vincents Cadets members (And Vinnies director drill instructor Mickey Petrone) after the corps was disbanded in the fall of 1971. Woodsiders competed very successfully in regional action. Another corps that did well in regional competition was St Patricks Cadets of Jersey City. Their Bobby Thompson taught drum line more than held their own against their local big gun rivals. Blue Rock could also be considered a "Jersey" corps as they held Veterans sponsorships in both NJ and DE. They are EASILY the best corps to ever herald from the "First State". Elphaba

  31. Bengal Lancers: I recall the corps from Trumbull, winning the World Open Class "B" Championship in the early 1970's. I also believe they folded right after they won the title. The Joe Genero taught St Aeden's Emerald Cadets had a good run in the early 1970's, and the parish corps from St Raphael's was resurected in 1970 or 1971 as "Golden Buccaneers" and competed until 1975 or so then was merged with St Aeden's Emerald Cadets of New Haven for a season, known as the "Emerald Buccaneers". 33. Correct, inasmuch as The Kilties have 7 (of 11 owned contras) that are 5/4 Dynasty Super Mags (and in fantastic shape), although they were not purchased from the Madison Scouts in "99" 6 were purchased from the Troopers after they converted to multi-key and one was purchased from an independent party, all 7 purchased in the 2006 timeframe.
