BRASSO
Maybe they're stealing our ideas. " copying " them might be a better term that will go over better on here, imo. Edited June 7, 2016 by BRASSO
barigirl78
In the video, Ed Devlin starts his description of this year's show by saying, "The music this year, with the use of Vivaldi's Four Seasons, we're using parts of it, but [Andrew Markworth?, hard to hear] is taking it and creates his own twist on it from beginning to end." To me, this sounds a lot like what SCV is doing, with their use of Spring1 and Winter 1 from Recomposed by Max Richter, which is based on Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Last year, the Blue Knights and Crossmen both used Eric Whitacre's Fly to Paradise in their shows and that's where the similarity between the two productions started and ended. Same song, but totally different contexts.
Jurassic Lancer
Last year, the Blue Knights and Crossmen both used Eric Whitacre's Fly to Paradise in their shows and that's where the similarity between the two productions started and ended. Same song, but totally different contexts. And may it be so with these two shows. I think it is very likely they will be very different, but when Ed Devlin opened the video with the Vivaldi statement, it caught my attention because it was so unexpected--unexpected to me, at least, given the advertised original composition repertoire. Same song, but totally different contexts. This happens sometimes. 1993 Don Ellis - Strawberry Soup / Devils and Scouts. Of course back then corps would still tend to play arrangements in relative completion so you could actually "compare". Similarities are much harder to come by these days with the way that source music is fragmented or voiced. But even back then, the two instances were different enough that you were happy to hear it twice in a night.

That was a big overlap. *Edit: Just because the song was iconic. The take on it was obviously different haha Edited June 7, 2016 by noahsigs
barigirl78
Crossmen just released a preview of their uniforms: https://www.facebook.com/TheBonesRemain/photos/a.344955373334.151579.55689628334/10153805856443335/?type=3 I like them. BTW--I'm headed to San Antonio and will see some run-throughs. I'll let you know how prominent Vivaldi is in the music.

Interestingly, both Madison ('83-83) and (Garfield) Cadets (1978) played "Strawberry Soup." But everyone hypes Madison memories. (pun intended.) Ditto with "Pieces of Dreams" (Garfield) Cadets('76,'77,'78, '81) and Madison (1979 only) but Madison gets the memories. Even as late as 1999: Crossmen and SCV doing Blue Shades (both pretty faithful arrangements but Crossmen did a bit more of it).
