The ensemble coordinator works with the brass, percussion, visual, and color guard staff to devise and implement a plan for ensemble rehearsals. It's not at all an easy job. Kamarag
Well if that doesn't sound a little condescending... If you think so, fine, but it's absolutely true.
skevinp
The person in this job helps the Music Ensemble Coordinator. I always get the Assistant Music Ensemble Coordinator confused with the Associate Music Ensemble Coordinator, the Vice Music Ensemble Coordinator, the Alternate Music Ensemble Coordinator, the Lieutenant Music Ensemble Coordinator, and the Music Ensemble Coordinator's Apprentice. I know one of them is just a heartbeat away from being the Music Ensemble Coordinator.

How much devising and implementing is needed that an assistant is needed? Sounds like a bit of bs. Not easy? Really? Yeah it would be. Hey, when they are zipping around the country during the summer doing umpteen Texas, Georgia, California and Indiana band camps, they can't be expected to be on tour too can they? Bruckner8
The shows today are turning into a three ring circus, with multiple events, different timing responsibilities, etc. When you add the speakers strewn about, timings are even more difficult because of the physical delay. Also, in order to hold people accountable properly, duties need to be assigned based on those needs and skill set. Thus titles like Enemble coordinator are made. Then, since that person can't be there 100% of the time, assistants are assigned. These coordinators define the rehearsal breakdown, after coordinating with captions managers. Their #1 responsibility is timing, and the formulas for enforcing it. That way, there's no mystery, no arguments across captions...only a clearly defined set of responsibilities with one person held accountable.

This makes sense. If the staff cannot agree on what parts of the show to work on in rehearsal, then someone needs to step up. Clearly you've never run an ensemble rehearsal for a good-sized band or drum corps. It's incredibly difficult.
