Really, anything can happen here, but the big lesson learned is that unless you bring your A game, EVERY season these days, you could end up as dog food. I think there's some nuance beyond just the placements. If Cadets finish 5th/6th, but everyone loves the show, they clearly achieve excellence, and the staff/vets are pumped to return next year, that's one thing. The other groups just had a bit more talent or a bit better design or whatever this year. This has basically been the SCV story the last few seasons (strong corps, doing the right things, not quite good enough to medal) and I don't see anyone calling them dog food. If Cadets finish 5th/6th and it's a repeat of 2016 - design is weak, critical staff members leave, performance is lacking - then maybe they have bigger problems that are going to take a while to fix. In this scenario, yes, there are some hungry groups behind them that might take advantage.

I've been a long time fan of the Cadets, myself. Since 1983. Saw them live for the first time in '84 and I was just a shell-shocked 14 year old then. '87 (along with '91 Star and '87 Vanguard) remains one of my top 3 favorite shows ever. I'm sure you were bagging on them in 2015 too. Fans tend to be "optimistic" even when their corps is in a regrowing phase. You comments are destructive. You're entitled but a fan of Cadets you're not. (SCV who built a dream team 5+ years ago) have yet to medal but your comments on them are stellar I would guess. If you dislike Cadets, fine, but please stop spewing your venom and then ending it with "I'm a fan and loved them since 83". If I had to bet right now I would bet that Crown doesn't medal this year. There is plenty of room to be wrong but I stand by my gut response. I was #teamcadets all season, right up until worlds (where Crown blew me away and I wanted them or Cadets to win). Their 2015 show was AWESOME. The most demand and amazing execution. How a hornline could win brass marching a drill like that is beyond me. Great music and great drill. I was critical of their show last year and am even more critical this year. So what. Ignore me then. Edited June 20, 2017 by henry7184
