garfield
So the exodus (which most likely includes Bocook as well) doesn't concern you in the least....? Brass arranger (HOF) Drill writer (HOF) Percussion arranger Brass caption head Asst. Dir/Tour Mgr Essentially all in the same year. No alarm bells? No flags going up? To me... it's almost more alarming that this kind of thing would be considered business as usual.... Very serious question: Why should it worry...ME? chaddyt
Very serious question: Why should it worry...ME? I wouldn't begin to suggest what should and should not worry you. I guess I just wish I shared your lack of concern.
Jeff Ream
It seems to me that George willingly courts public opinion and feedback at every turn and is more than eager to present himself as the face of Cadets. If you take the good, then you better be willing to accept the bad. George pretty clearly brings both onto himself at every turn! The only bad press is no press
exitmusic
George's post is so tone deaf. People didn't leave because of life, they left because of George Hopkins. This isn't a well-known staffer moving to another group for a different, less involved role that allows a different lifestyle. This is people fleeing en masse the toxic atmosphere which has permeated the organization over the past several years and is something that many have seen coming for a long time. I am honestly not trying to be Chicken Little, but this time really is different from the examples George gave. I can only presume that everyone saying, "Everything will be fine," doesn't actually have any idea what is going on behind the scenes. Jeff Ream
I've never marched drum corps. Am I even allowed to be here?? I asked Mr G when I stopped by their camp tonight. He was unsure :)- ( just kidding I have him his staff passes and he talked to my daughter)

Jeff Ream
I think people are revealing a lot of their own psychological makeup if they interpret what Mr. Hopkins said on FB as deprecating in any way towards the 2 guys who left for Boston. What a gross thread. I wasn't offended by it. I mean he's obviously hurting if he's going to see Streisand

MikeRapp
I initially thought this staff change might be a big deal but, after being reminded of the list of departures and returns on Hop's FB post, I'm convinced that this is a non-event. The facts of the Cadets' placements after prior "historic" events is proof of that belief, IMO. Hop is who Hop is, and virtually everyone knows him, or about him, or about his reputation. It's a reputation that he's had for decades and, yet, stellar members of his staff have both come and gone just as now. I found his FB post frankly refreshing, and refreshing coming from him, specifically. In fact, I've not been a fan of his for nearly as long as I've loved his corps, but his FB post in the face of such withering criticism has actually caused me to add a mark to the plus side for him. Maybe I love an underdog. The OP's post presumes much about what was or wasn't said as these old, old friends made the decision to shake hands and walk away from one another. That presumption is distasteful, IMO, and paints an already difficult situation with a darker-than necessary (and un-enlightened) brush. Out of respect for you and the other Cadets alumni here, I am not going to comment on this thread any longer. Just too much subtext that I clearly cannot fully understand. And because I don't have any personal history with Cadets, it's just better to let those who do speak into this as better informed participants. Would rather discuss happier things. Onward. :-)

Following your lead. I'm out. Good luck to the Cadets. I will not withdraw my financial support like some have but I'm through arguing.
