Speaking of selling…. In the 90s my old church was told by their insurance company that background checks should be run to cut down chance of abuse. If church would do that then insurance premiums would go down.

Sad part was lot of people didn’t like the idea of background checks. That is until you told them it would save money… then they were all for it 🤦‍♂️

A few years ago I volunteered to do some charity work that involved interacting with minors; as part of the vetting process I was sent to local sheriff to have fingerprints taken and to run my info through the various databases.

So my point is that perhaps there is a way for a Corps to send staff to law enforcement as part of vetting process.  They have access to the databases, and (in theory) the IT security to keep the databases secure.  IDK what it takes to work out this kind of process, but you could sell it to law enforcement as prevention - a little work doing a background check up-front is a lot easier than investigating & prosecuting a sexual assault later.

I think that's viable. I wonder what other institutions do that are (or I hope are,) involved in these types of checks such as the BSA and GSA.

problem in DC today , especially WC is many if not most members technically aren't considered minors. OC maybe different for sure. Now, staff to member creepy, unethical, crossing a line? for sure BUT this is a thing that sometimes makes it difficult. Young staff members who actually are extremely close in age to most WC members blur's that line even more.

We tend to forget in talking about today's member ( especially WC) we aren't talking about minors. Young , yes, vulnerable, yes can be predator as well as victim, yes.

Personal opinion of mine is when the line gets   blurred, lines get crossed and not just as far as a relationship, it blur's the ethical line between student and teacher which can also cause issues among members.
