It's not to make an example of them. If SCV makes it to Indy I think that they will be lucky to make finals. We’ll see.

If they were able to retain the brain trust they've had the last few years, they should be able to attract enough performing talent and make finals.
cixelsyd
Again, the "going on first" thing is not as big a deal as some are making it out to be. While they are not a member corps, they are still a world-class corps. Therefore, at western shows they will appear one hour earlier than they otherwise would have. In a few shows approaching San Antonio, there will usually only be one or two open-class/SoundSport groups preceding them. At San Antonio, they will go on first in world-class. That could be five hours earlier than where they belong. But for the entire other half of the season, their performance slot will be determined by their recent competitive placings. Back to business as usual in that regard.

So lots of member jackets through the evening. 😁 Edited October 5, 2023 by keystone3ply cx

Good point....I wonder if the "retroactive score adjusting" is the reason why we no longer get scores announced during the Big, Loud, and Live Cinecast until the end. They used to announce scores one corps at a time all day/night; then it went to 5 or 6 corps at a time; now it's crickets until midnight.

I’m sure the adjusting of scores played a role in the ways scores were announced. Some scores were announced earlier in the day and if you were in Indy you knew which corps from earlier in the day would compete in semi’s, though we may have had to look online. When you think about how close some groupings were, especially 2-4 and 5-7, as well as 9-11 and the contention of who would place 12th, holding off in case adjustments had to be made is logical, at least to the judges and if you think they should be able to adjust numbers.
