  1. I was ok with any of the top 3 winning, tho less Crown after they tweaked the ending.

  2. You really had to see this show live to fully appreciate it. Were they dirtier than BD and Crown? You bet. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable show to watch. Oozing GE, and enough achievement to keep them in the mix. That monster of a show design was going to win regardless of how technically proficient those below them were. They sold that show and deserved the win.

  3. This whole discussion is a good example of why the judges judge the show on the field and not the one on the DVD. I'll take the judges result any day.

  5. 4 of 5 bass drums returning. New guy is from Xmen. 5 returning snares. Plus 1 Cadet, 1 Academy, 1 SCVC, 1 Rookie.

  6. When the strong opinions come out you know you made it to the top. Welcome to the club Bluecoats! Btw, no problem with anyone's comments. Being a champion or at the top of your game comes with the territory of having people talk about you. Relish it, keep moving forward and never stop being innovative.

  7. At the end of the day, it's a performance activity. While we grade on excellence, performance has to remember its original goal, which is to entertain. I watch a lot of Cirque shows. Drum corps has made my eye very keen to lack of uniformity, and there's a ton of that in Cirque. That said, even if my eye catches when the three guys performing backflips off bungee cords were a few inches out of alignment from each other, my brain still registers how awesome this is. "How awesome this is" must be the crux, and that's why entertaining is and should be the thing that pushes corps into champion status.

  8. Amazing to think how many people think Clean = Winning. If that were the case, corps would do just enough to win, rather than push the envelope. There are a ton of shows that could have won based on being "cleaner", but didn't because their product wasn't as innovative as the winner. Have to remember that the top and bottom boxes on the sheets are basically the "what are you doing" and "how are you doing it". 1984 Cadets over BD 1985 Cadets over SCV and BD 1988 Scouts over BD (who ended up third) 1990 Cadets over Cavaliers 1998 Cadets over SCV 1999 SCV...Very dirty but way cool 2001 Cavaliers over BD and Cadets 2005 Cadets over Cavaliers 2008 PR over BD 2016 Bluecoats over BD All of those shows had more visual or musical "dirt" than the runner up, but there is NO way I would take any of those titles away from the corps who won.

  9. Ink is my favorite show! I also really love Cadets 2015! of the most under rated I think BD 2013 really is under rated.

  10. Smoke and mirrors can get a lot of fans, and certainly higher scores. Just look at Cavaliers in 2000-2003. Challenging, innovative, and dirtier than a colonoscopy. Exciting and fresh live, but when you take step back, not close to what we thought. You take that, coupled with (and I've said this before) the fact that so many in the stadium wanted them to win that winky boy could have farted into a mic for his solo and gotten a standing ovation, and you get show that is highly regarded in the moment and then just seems meh when you take a step back.

  11. Six minutes and twenty four seconds. And I too think this should have been 4th, and a reasonable distant 4th at that. DOn't get me wrong, I was hyping this as much as the next guy, but there is no way this corps won. I'd have scored it, BD, Crown, Santa Clara, Bloo

  13. Blue Devils 2004/2005. Classiest BD uniform they've ever had, classy uniform in genera, and it translates really well from both the field and the box.

  17. Exactly. New dynamic needs new ways of adjudication for the judging.

  18. I just hope corps keep their identities. I dont want everyone to be the bluecoats.

  19. Completely disagree. They have always had a classy uniform. As of late they haven't been to great. But historically they have a fantastic uniform.

  22. Cavaliers in 1989 (Gloria Mvts 1-3) introduced me to Rutter. I absolutely loved the Colts' Magnificat. Can you imagine what today's brass lines could do with it? (Or for that matter, an updated version of their "Voices" show?) Mike

  23. Especially under the VFW rules. For that matter, no corps would.

  24. Ink. I know everybody hates it, but man...I love it. I think most people dont give it a chance because Crown didnt win, and the actual show gets lost in the mix. People need to realize its not BDs fault that the judges liked them better. I liked the show. Other shows Bd 2011 Bd 2013 Cadets 2015 Plus lots of others already mentioned....
