  1. I would submit that if a multi-year vet comes to auditions and rehearsals unprepared, then they are not being very "loyal" to their corps to begin with

  2. By the way, do you anticipate any issues from the choice of name for the corps? I'm not familiar enough with Alabama, but I imagine there are some areas of the South where people might hear the name and think of a certain other organization.

  3. Don't know how I missed it in 2010, but I'm certainly making up for lost time. It kind of went like this: Saturday: bored, search for shows on the site that must not be named. Found a clip of the ending to Into the Light. Watched about five times in a row. Sunday night: got the audio and video on the Fan Network, put on my iPod Monday: Lose track of how many times I listened to it at work. I'm still not sold on the middle part of the show--some ideas that just didn't quite coalesce (but some really sick drill moves). But sweet mother of God, the opening and closing are glorious. THAT'S the Regiment I want to hear! Today: Ordered Kamen's original piece on Amazon.

  4. I got a chance to catch this group this weekend in Burlington, NJ. Battery is full with a cymbal line. (I loves me some crashes in the boom line) They apparently did a show revamp. Which sounds wicked. They played some Sammy Hazo chart for their opener which has a beast of a low brass part in it. Actually they have some beast parts in all the parts. So this looks like a way different corps than we're used to seeing. They did say they have some brass spots left. Mostly trumpets and baris but if they get more than expected, they'll just have to use that as an excuse to furnish new horns. Sounds like a good problem. So if anyone knows a horn who wants to march, it looks like these ladies and gents will give the crowd something great to watch.

  5. If I may... I respectfully suggest a "step at a time" approach here. If the corps is not yet ready to go on the competition field in 2016, from a membership and financial standpoint, don't rush things just to get a corps out there. And if the infrastructure is not yet in place to support a "feeder corps"... put it on the back burner. I am not trying to say "don't do this" or "you can't do this." I wish you all the best, and hope we'll see you guys at DCA championships some year. Like W said earlier, it would be great to have yet another southern all-age corps on the scene!!! Just that I've seen so many organizations with big plans fall by the wayside over the years, because they tried to take too many steps too quickly.

  14. Interesting, and not too surprising. Court challenge means: 1) LOTS of time and money: publisher likely has more at their disposal than DCI and WGI 2) going to court could mean a president-setting decision that could screw DCI and other organizations with all publishers What seems more likely is all to come to some sort of settlement so all are satisfied.

  15. Good one Cappy, ha, ha. (Actually I lifted it from the local hockey team there in Rockford who did a benefit night for them.) I guess on DCP while we await details, we will be accused of renaming the gig as "City of (Making it) Light."

  19. I was there too (volunteering on the food truck). The music does sound sweet and it's surprisingly sporty! 8 tubas - I love me some low brass. Can't wait for the season. The percussion sounds top notch too.. If you're thinking about doing DCI this year, consider joining the Raiders. They have a great staff and the kids all seem to be pretty terrific - even percussion! Plus for now, they're staying in a nearby hotel during the camps.

  24. You're welcome. Aside from the live concerts, their archive is a treasure trove of performances; and they have other subscription options. And, for any Timpanists in the crowd (my main axe these days), the two co-principals in the Berlin Phil are incredible musicians with magical technique. If I were a band or orchestra teacher, I would want my kids, regardless of instrument, to be exposed to these virtuosos....just wish that the elite American ensembles like Philly, Chicago, Cleveland, et al.....could afford this kind of internet presence.

  25. Thanks Brian have relatives in Huntington and nearby. The area could use a local based youth corps. Looks like they are starting small which is a good thing. Guessing staff from the local schools and possible Marshall Univ but don't know what Marshalls music program is like. Will keep an eye out......

  26. I wonder if recent events will have the PR design team tweak the original idea they wish the corps to convey.
