  1. And 2009...and 2012...and kinda 2013 for that matter. Oh, look what happened when they went prop crazy in 2014 to their visual program.

  2. Correct me if i am wrong, but doesn't BD do a sneak peek in June, but release the name of their show and music late April early May?

  3. Since I'm in the Cadets thread, I am focused on the Cadets' usage of props, which over the past few years, haven't been effective.

  4. Completely agree. 2009 is a classic. I sat there finals week trying to take it all in the 3 nights. Finals night Crown 2009 was an unforgettable performance.

  8. 2007 was a really fantastic year when you think about it. Blue Devils won it on an anniversary year, Cadets were an absolute monster corps regardless of thoughts on their show. Cavaliers were their old selves in a solid third with a very fun show that doesn't get mentioned a ton. 4th - 7th Phantom Regiment, Santa Clara Vanguard, Carolina Crown, and Bluecoats were ridiculously tight and all had shows I REALLY enjoy. Dark Blue Knights show was really nice. Boston Crusaders Picasso show is another one that's a lot of fun that doesn't get mentioned a ton. Great drumline. Colts Equinox show is top to bottom fantastic, another one that I quite enjoy from that season. Glassmen's Gypsy show was great as well and Spirit of Atlanta had some great moments, personally really like the ballad. Then outside finals you had Academy blasting into division 1, Blue Stars back from their D2 days for the second year in a row almost knocking on finals, Madison Scouts with a really fun show despite their struggles, Crossmen with their first show after moving to Texas, Pacific Crests really fun Vegas show, Cascades still going strong, Southwinds last hurah, Troopers best show in a good while after going inactive, Mandarins IMO underrated Dragon Dance show, AND Pioneer being Pioneer and giving us some good Irish fun. One of the few seasons that I own both volumes of the DVD. Underrated season perhaps? I also feel pretty strongly about 2002 in that regard.

  9. 2014 was poor design and poor planning. A few folks thought they were good enough to "wing it" and sadly they could not. The talent on the field was let down that season.

  10. Carolina Crown got along just fine in 2015 without any props on the field unless you wanna get technical and call tarps and material a prop. Not having props didn't cost them that win. It's not what you use it's how you use it......

  11. Pretty inevitable for just about any competitive corps to have props. I people can be a little too critical of the Cadets props sometimes. I (unpopularly) really liked the '13 ones. Just enjoyed the color scheme and the splash they brought to the field. 14's stage... well, it was '14. '15's were really, really cool IMO. Very simple, but they had a lot if interesting uses in the show for what they were; little box things. I wish '16's looked a little better. I think Cadets props are going to look a little on the shabby side if they don't start hiring professionals to make them. God knows Crown (probably) didn't make that stagecoach with a team of a couple volunteers. Other than that, I really don't think it's possible to speculate about these things, given that all we have is Show Title. As for the new equipment truck, I think it was always going to happen at some point.. A lot of corps already roll with two and I seem to have a distant memory of Hop talking about how the org was trying to put it off for as long as they could so they didn't have to worry about the extra vehicle and the cost it'd rack up. I'm curious to see if it's just going to be a rent-for-the-summer deal or if it's going to be a permanent fixture of their fleet. I imagine that given YEA! has enough dosh to field two corps, an equipment truck won't be too much of a strain.

  14. I imagine a similar reaction when mankind discovered the earth was in fact round and not flat. (I kid).

  15. i wish social media had been around during the transition to asymmetrical drill. would make the amp freakout a decade ago look tame, i'm betting.

  16. it's why i think we're going to see a lot of corps transition to bloo-style "uniforms" in the very near future people got mad at me for suggesting it, but with what they're being asked to do on the field, it makes sense to me doesn't mean i like it, either

  17. They were last seen running towards the corner arugula store before it closed.

  18. I guess I'd need to hear what was revolutionary about this BC show. the ramps are just kind of tweaked platforms/ladders. body movement? mandatory for the last 5 years at least. they made some interesting refinements to soloist highlighting that actually kind of harken back to early 90s but with modern tech. and I dunno if uniforms count as an entire paradigm. aside: if people who are vocal about 'old drum corps is best drum corps get your props off my lawn!' are dinosaurs, is there a name for the perfervid group that is eager to insist that last year's best/most popular show was the best show of all time ever by anybody and is the new gold standard? can we call them Goldfish? on the one hand I appreciate that kind of excitement, it's excellent leaving the stands thinking you've never seen anything like that before and wow! but maybe every show doesn't rewrite history or get chiseled into Mount Rushcorps.

  20. I'm almost hoping they keep things close to their vests and come out in June and surprise everyone. Maybe a few clips here and there but nothing more than stimulating interest

  26. I was recently shuttling some members to and from the airport and and corps winter camp. The conversation turned to the new uniform the corps is expected to get for this season. The member who is a multi-year vet said they just wanted more spandex in the pants so that they could do the visuals that staff wants. Last season they had difficulty and ripped a lot of pants as a result.

  27. I really enjoyed The Academy's take on Right of Spring in 2012, really quirky take on the source and it's meaning. Got into a little of the sacrificial stuff BD would a year later. Ballad ending was really nice too.

  30. While anythings possible, are you are that the last time that Phantom Regiment failed to make finals was in 1973 ? 44 years ago ?

  31. They'll do an angels vs. demons kinda thing with half the corps being Hamilton and the other half being Burr.

  32. Sometimes I think of Cavs' victory over Crown on July 8, 2011 as the "Bowling Green Massacre".

  33. And the drill was really, really good. Seamless transitions, fluidity of motion, full of great effects. And that ballad -- guard work just speaks the music. Musically such a wide variety of source woven together so well. While 2013 may have won, 2009 was perhaps their best work.

  35. No, we don't all agree with that by any stretch. What most of us have come to realize is that it's a combination of factors that win championships, starting with a successful administration. Design team, teaching staff, talented and dedicated members, and outstanding support are all necessary in completing the combination. Design team alone won't win squat, let alone a championship.
