BOSMarcher
Honestly...I don't think that is it. what does the Y in YEA stand for? Youth. so if he allows 40 year old folks in there, he's going against his organizations charter I think this is a good point. I think the way Hopkins made his point came off worse than what he meant. He probably should have stated what you stated in his blog. So then question you have to ask is, why not say it?
Ace Holleran
I think this is an absolutely wonderful idea. Why all the naysayers? Salient points, all IMHO: DCA gets stronger--Cadets2 will probably contend, or get there quickly adds a new wrinkle to "senior" circuit gives younger players a chance to do corps "weekend warrior" style will possibly put more fannies in seats could raise bar for established DCA units could start a groundswell I am of the opinion "let's make this work" as opposed to "why it won't work." Flame on. Ace

Flame on. Ace See, Ace, I prefer YOUR attitude. As far as giving younger players a chance, though, uh, they already have that with every already-existing DCA corps. But if it can help drive more folks to shows AND maybe raise the bar a bit, then I'm sure all for it!

All I'm saying is this doesn't give a kid in Texas, or Iowa, or Guam for that matter, any more opportunity than what they already have - It's probably a shorter flight to San Francisco or to St Paul for a kid from Texas than to Philly then on to Allentown, right? More corps = . It's just that, though - More corps, not suddenly an opportunity that didn't exist before,

And ... that's the way it's always been in the DCA (even before) ... the younger corps thrive and survive ... I myself was only 19 when I joined the Skyliners ... Ace's good friend (and mine) John Bodnar was 16 when he joined the Hurcs ... BHOF members Johnny Guarino and Jackie Meehan were a mere 15 when they hooked up with Sky in the late 50's ... well before DCA ... the Hurcs championship years of the 60's had a high influx of Jr. corps members helping them win ... and Reading probably had the youngest of the young during their VFW and early DCA years ... and these were not neophyte players ... I said it before ... yout in the Senior/All Age/DCA ranks is nothing new ... I'm with Timmy (aka Ace) ... let 'em in and let 'er rip!!!! :-)

JimF-LowBari
And we (Sunrisers) were called "The Milk and Cookies Corps" (or Cadets) when Donna and I joined in '75.... And in '74 when Westshore tried to regroup it was open up the floodgates to HS and college agers or stay defunct. It was a Helluva ride and learning experience for us all. Sure other corps had fun calling us the Kiddie Korps until we started beating some of 'em. Then we got some wild ###ed looks in the parking lot. One of my funniest memories was turning 21 few days before AL Nats in New Orleans. I walked around with a beer in the parking lot of the motel the night we won and couple of BoD members jumped me about it. Explained I was 21 and it was "Oh... happy birthday". Then one woke up a bit and said "Jimmy how many years have you been in the corps now?" Answer was it was my 5th season. On topic: It'a another DCA corps.... 84BDsop
Like what? Please tell me what tunes DCA corps have played that no other corps has played. From SoCal Dream: 2005: Twisted Nerve (yes, Cadets played it the same year....we played more of it than Cadets did). Run Fay Run, Green Hornet (the Kill Bill version, since that was our show), The Lonely Shepherd...all but the closer, in fact. 2006: L'Arena, Malaguena Salerosa (I think) 2008: The Show Must Go On, Death on Two Legs, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Don't Stop Me Now 2009: Europa: Earth's Cry Heaven's Smile 2010: Necrology (I believe this was an original composition??) You were saying???
