garfield
I heard that without recaps Jeff decided it wasn't worth being involved in the activity. Let me guess - Brasso told you this, right?
drumcorpsfever
Maybe he just watched San Andreas a few too many times, and wants to get out while he still can. That's okay. The Rock will save the day. He could do the sequel with the drum corps movie he's doing. I could just see him now, flying Fiedler out of town in his helicopter. Channel3
Fiedler is a master. Recent shows under his leadership at SCV were moving, powerful, and rich with meaning. 2015 Spark of Invention which celebrates Nikola Tesla's quest for innovation, now mirrored in the modern Tesla corporation's quest for affordable, planet-saving electric cars in the year of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris. 2014 Scheherazade in the same year that Malala won the Nobel peace prize-- a powerful Middle Eastern woman taking control of a male dominated culture. 2013 Les Miserables' Bring Him Home - US involvement in Afghanistan is declared over in 2013 with 35,000 American troops coming home, with 5500 remaining in 2016. What an incredibly strong set of shows with resonant, pertinent thematic arguments, subtly and passionately delivered. And you know for a fact that these shows were put together in order to celebrate/honor these other events?

Quad Aces
[*]2013 Les Miserables' Bring Him Home - US involvement in Afghanistan is declared over in 2013 with 35,000 American troops coming home, with 5500 remaining in 2016. Not that I disagree with the "spirit" of your post, but your description of the 2013 show is really a stretch (IMHO) - "Les Miserables' Bring Him Home" is not even the title of that show. The show title is just "Les Miserables", and I'm guessing that it really didn't have anything to do with the U.S. involvement in Afghanistan.Oh, and not to mention that the U.S, involvement in Afghanistan was not declared over in 2013 - it was 2014. What an incredibly strong set of shows with resonant, pertinent thematic arguments, subtly and passionately delivered. I appreciate the spirit of your post but, IMO, it stretches credulity to suggest that SCV played these shows at these times to make these relational comparisons. "...affordable, planet-saving electric cars in the year of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris..." where they dined in the best restaurants, filled all of the city's 5-star hotels on their sovereign tabs, pumped tons and tons of carbon into the atmosphere just flying their private jets to get there, then spent their "work days" figuring out ways to spend other people's wealth enforcing their rules on those same people who created the wealth. All while ignoring the impacts of developing countries because the developed world has, in the requisite view to support their profligacy, survived and thrived on white, male privilege. I find it hard to believe that Jeff would tie his corps' future and its financing to such polarizing and unproven themes. If true, though, I'm not surprised he's headed back to Chicago. It's just band.

I suspect Mr. Fiedler's disassociation with SCV had nothing to do with shows put on the field, and more to do with off-the-field stuff

I appreciate your linking these shows politically but I serious doubt this was intended to make a point.
