Phantom56 28
Given that the Tokyo Olympics will certainly be postponed or cancelled, and the ongoing news this weekend, it is time for DCI to announce the closure of the 2020 season. The kids and instructors deserve to know, as well as us fans. Corps should go on lockdown till the end of the summer, decrease expenses, and do nothing but fund-raise. 4 1 2
George Dixon 13,814
“It’s time because something else might be postponed” ok gotcha - not the strongest argument I’ve ever heard I will flip that around and say “what’s the rush?” let the picture play out another ten days or so then pull the plug if needed

And this is why Dan Acheson is DCI Executive Dir and not you or me, and corps representatives voting membership makes the decisions about the season, and not you or me. They've been doing this for decades. Their primary focus is on the marching members and their participant's safety. They'll make the right decision at the right time. That time is not now. As I posted in another thread, today Gov. Murphy shut down pretty much every business in NJ. He said this could go on for months The FAA closed all NY Area airports, due to corona staffing issues. I also think they will remove restrictions, incrementally, just like they put them in. See what happens when something is lifted. Then decide what's next. People also have to realize the economy isn't a light switch. It will take time, after all restrictions are lifted,to get back to close to normal. I wish someone could tell me one positive thing they've seen that, anything concerning this, is getting better, not worse. Then maybe I could see holding off on cancelling the season. Nothing positive,in fact the opposite, then now is the time.
Mello Dude 730
....and we are only a few days into this and the experts come out to tell them what to do. The season is still months away. Relax. 5

"Nothing like this..."? Please, calm down You're overreacting. We've been through much worse than this as a country and as a hobby to think this is going to somehow drastically change the activity. How does that song go? "We will survive..."? 1

Ok what in your opinion has tested drum corps more than this. During the depression and WWII local Posts and Scouts, etc were able to keep small local corps going. Plus there were always parades, rallies, etc that corps could perform in. Enjoy researching corps history back to 1920 and can’t think of any time when corps could not perform.
