Number of Finals

Recommended Posts

Have been to every Final since 2006. So that’s……17 (including 2021 celebration) and have seen every world class drum corps perform live since 2000 (regionals, etc…).
Favorites are 2006/2008/2010

Baby's firsts...

First DCI broadcast: 1993

First live show: Tulsa in 1996 (rained out, with standstill performances by Magic, Crown, Cavies, and Regiment in the school's PAC)

First live finals: 2002, and I've only missed 03, 11, and 20 since for a total of 19

Favorite: I really liked 2002, probably because it was the first

Nine times, if you include 2021 ten.

Though 1994 was not my favorite finals, as great as it was on that hot, humid, murky night, 27th’s “Once More in 94” was probably my favorite finals moment.

There was lots of excitement in 2013 when Crown won and 2016 when Academy made finals, BAC squeezed in and Bloo won.

2012 was the first year I was able to attend everything from beginning to end with Blue Saints bring the first corps to compete and Blue Devils the last performing corps in finals (usually beginning with Saints and ending with Devils in not a good thing, it should be the other way around, the exception being drum corps🙂). There was also the parade at that time, but for me that finals was a favorite because I experienced it all.

2021 was not judged, but it still felt like finals to me and after the year 2020 was and most of 2021, it was what we needed.

I usually like the dust to settle a bit so it may be too early to say 2023, but with the quality, excitement, and variety, 2023 will be at the top of my future lists.

I went to Finals first in 1989 (what an incredible first year), the year before I marched in 1990.  I've never missed a Finals since starting in 89 - and even went to the celebration year, which turned out to be amazing.  So that is 34 Finals and counting, with tickets for my group already bought for next year.

It's truly hard to narrow down to just one, but I'll have to choose 2008.  Amazing performances across the board, with great shows, from Spartacus, Contantly Risking Absurdity, Samurai, Finis, Bluecoats boxing show & Le Tour.  And an electric crowd - not to mention the once in a lifetime experience with virtually the entire crowd willing Regiment to win (and going absolutely berserk when they did).  Hard to top 2008.  HMs to 1989, 1991, 1992, 1995, 2000, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2012, 2014 and 2023.
