You already know the retort: drum corps needs to "evolve". Sounds fancy. Means nothing. Well actually as BBMM so eloquently points out, it means we are plum out of ideas so we need to change the rules again.

Either way, they will cease to be the Madison Scouts...whether they bow to the pressure to conform, or they slowly slide into complete irrelevance. Oh good! Welcome back Sir Fracks A Lot! Looking forward to you spouting off on all things Madison, even I'm sure you won't actually see the corps at all. Will you do the truffle shuffle for us in 2017?

The radical shows we've seen the past few years don't dispute that, they actually prove my point. How do we know this? When the designers and corps leadership start lobbying for rule changes (amplified pit, any key instruments, nontraditional instrumentation, etc), that is a signal of a lack of creativity. At that point you are fundamentally changing the activity, not removing "constraints" on your artistic liscense. True creativity is being able to do the things you want to do within the constraints of the rules. Enlarging the window of what is acceptable isn't creative; It's the lazy way out. And DCI has been taking the easy way out for awhile. Best post of the year. 100% spot on correct.
SFZFAN
My only question at this point is when will we see the "costume" for this year's show? Hoping for a reveal that doesn't induce vomiting.
MikeN
Madison always looks good, even in those resurrected boy scout uniforms from 2010-14 (shudder). I'm not worried about their uniform this year. Mike

The good news on the 2017 uniform is Chad Duggan is designing it, which IMO, is always a good thing.
DrumManTx
I'm interested in what the uniform looks like but a lot more interested in what this music program will sound like. In terms of shows I'm excited to see based on what the theme is/what they're playing this is easily in my top 5.
Madcityscout
I am really excited about the music. But I'm also excited to see what the new visual/BD people bring to the table to help the visual design for this show.
