  1. My take on it, based on the description (such as it is) is that they're looking at game as being sport, and not video gaming. I could be wrong, but I don't associate video gaming with athleticism.

  2. Such a slippery slope, so take credit away from the Cavies, PR, Star, Crossmen in the early 90's, etc due to BD and SCV slipping from their prior dominance in the rankings. Brilliant logic.

  11. Same here with a hint of machine. Maybe wishful thinking on my part. I think Machine is in my top 3 of all time favorite shows.

  12. Maybe the Blue Knights will do something light, and will be the only corps this year to do so. </satire>

  13. And my initial thought was more of a "Maze Runner" type of show over game or gladiator type ...

  14. Round here it costs $20-$25 to convert up to 2 hour or so VHS to DVD. Just figure that into your total cost. Local camera store seems to be the cheapest..... LOL - have gone from Super 8 home movies to VHS to DVD..... nobody watchs em but we have em....

  15. Yeah I made the 2012 comment. The reason why is that it just sorta seems like such an out there theme much like 2012 and I'm just not sure how well they'll design the show. They chose good source music though so who knows how it will really turn out!

  16. Not disagreeing, but I'd like to know the similarities? Just purely out of interest. Considering a bunch of the staff that was around for that isn't around any more, and the only changes they've made this year have been really good ones, along with them steadily improving over three seasons, almost paced over the last few years, I don't see it myself. Maybe I'm missing something. If we're going with the show announcement isn't appealing, last year two of my favorites at the end of the season were not even on my radar when I first heard the announcement. Bluecoats, maybe not terrible, but it didn't really hit me as something that I'd fall in love with the way I did. Blue Knights, theme sounded vague, boring, tacky, and muddy. Turned into the complete opposite. And of course there's the transverse of how many shows I hype out the butt and then I'm really disappointed, I won't name those. If the source music is great and the theme and title are a little vague.....that leaves a lot of room for what they're going to do. I say at least give it a chance. I'm excited but it could be a bomb. Or it couldn't be a bomb. We shall see in about 2 months.

  17. I hate to say, but I agree with an earlier post about 2012. Feels like a step back to me, which is a bummer because I love the musical selections.

  21. Chris NCSU who has been lately busy offering his congratulations to those Cadets at Duke had previously posted in this thread that he heard from Hopkins that the uniform tinkering might be with the shako. I am picturing the temporary replacement of the Eagle with the numeral ten (X) but perhaps (10) in silver chrome, or the same on the flat top of the shako...or even the silver cross strap buckle temporarily replaced by the same. No proof for any of these, just imagining. That the plume is ten inches is definitely a given. We've already seen Surf and a thousand and one bands (Kenneshaw Mtn., Hunterdon, etc.) do the changing plume before your very eyes trick already. Just marking time until April camp and then Spring Training.

  23. 35 minute talk, so here is a summary of the summary: Cloud tape was still up at 11 am but reception not fine. So far... Emphasis on math rather than retelling the vita and circumstances of Shosty,. Some slight uniform adjustments may appear LATER in the season. Props are there but small, about 3-4 feet high. Emphasis on showcasing each section of the corps (a la 2000????) Prelude sets theme musically and visually. Second movement (very extended) is bulk of opener (3 minutes plus.) Percussion feature ("Hey, its drum corps!) Ballad is not Shostakovitch but from this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AgxaaiJeIQ and Israeli dance troupe. Some little bit of voice will be a variation of counting. Guard featured with four groups of 10 (dance, etc.) Third number has heavy percussion feature, even a waltz going then up to 224bpm(!) with brass with 15 French horn feature included. Fourth movement, Shosty, is typical Cadets, emphasis on visual and drill, counterlines, low brass/mellophones, includes all previous melodies of show. Mellophone ecstasy!. Closer will be fast!!! (Major request from membership and from Cadetnation.) Reprise. George says that if one emails him nicely at Yea, he will send links and midis. (hopkins@yea.org) He also says he is still open to suggestions, advice, and clarifications...try next week's webinar for more.

  31. Ya know... Renegades Mini corps actually really should audition for the next America's Got Talent. The show ended up not what I thought it would be. I was almost sure a singer or comedian would win, but someone with a real talent won. I think if Gade's went in there, performed a 1:30 of a blast type routine with drill and all, it would do very well. Gotta have percussion and guard tho.
