DCI and SOA being sued?

At the same time, the mission/vision/values of these organizations should at least be to do no harm. I think it's safe to say most, if not all, have failed at that at one point or another.

Hippocrates vs. hypocrisy?

What is success?  Success is no one gets sexually abused in a drum corps again. If SOA taking a one year timeout doesn’t do it, and spoiler alert, it won’t, then more needs to be done. I’m sorry if that means we miss our 10 minute pageantry shows until DCI takes this seriously instead of the empty words we’re getting from them now.

We’ll just punish ourselves, sort of, and maybe that’ll make this all go away.

not disagreeing. but as i have said many times, and have been proven right, DCI is only proactive when they are actually reactive.

Which is also the absolute possible LEAST amount of effort.

Based on some of the comments here, it is clear that no measures of prevention or accountability are adequate as far as some people are concerned.  We must shut down ALL drum corps immediately.   We should also shut down all college bands as well.  Come to think of it, we should also immediately close all college dorms as well.  While we're at it, we probably should prohibit all people from interacting with each other because of potential abuse.

Or, based on some of the comments here, DCI could try enacting more stringent policies that force corps to follow more uniform and transparent procedures?

And THIS is how you victim blame. Well done!

Or DCI can get an outside agency to handle reporting, investigating and punishment. Huge part of the problem is toothless follow through because DCI is “policing” itself. So Catch 22 of protecting the members while keeping an eye on the bottom line and having to “police” other BoD members corps.

Note: one of the reasons why Penn States Sandusky scandal got so out of hand was because PSU did its own investigation. And heaven forbid anything bad got out to the public.

It is abundantly clear that this post pertains to other posts here.  It says so in the first phrase.

And I still do not see survivors making posts like that here.  Not even one.  Instead, survivors seem to have the best and most thought-out ideas for improving things.

So how is that "victim blaming"?

craiga isn't wrong.  As long as people are involved it's never going to be 100%.  That utopian pipe dream is just never going to happen.  Now, that doesn't mean there can't be better procedures in place.  Perhaps, this is a time that DCI steps up to the plate and requires every corps that competes that DCI comes to a mandatory camp of the corps to have a planned discussion (not all day) about what members can do to report issues.  Whether that be to DCI, staff or even an 800 number or text.  Also, at EVERY show the corps must have free time for members to go into the stadium where DCI has a presence where these people can go to see someone in person.  I don't have all the answers but people are messy.
