  2. So the Cadets announce a program of fast, exciting music with the promise to pair it with FAST MOVEMENT and folks on here are balking, poking fun, second guessing and doubting I am SHOCKED Personally I hope they ram it down your throat at full volume and full velocity. When Cadets go dark and move fast they are often quite successful. The critics will still chirp, as always Excited about the percussive opportunities this program affords - one thing missing from last year's program was the percussive-driven moments - front and center / battery spent much of the program back-field With the strong weapons lines of last years Cadets guard and a very strong returning group of guard vets they will hopefully be featured early and often Hopefully a loud, fast and exciting Cadets show in 2015!! Sounding good so far! George.

  4. Just about any show is fine with me. As always, they'll perform it at a high level. HOWEVER..... the amount of spoken word MUST be cut down to the bone, if not missing altogether!

  5. The McCormick trailer at the US Open? All the buttons you could buy from all the corps that participated at US Open.

  6. So the bluecoats auditions are coming up pretty soon (Canton: November 29th-30th) and I'm going (so excited!!!) is anyone else auditioning this year? (on dcp)

  7. I love being challenged on my opinions as though they're fact.... 2005 was a unique design with original music and concept that incorporated elements that were new to the activity. It was a Cadets show that I couldn't put into any previous 'Cadets' category. Again... in my opinion... the Blue Devils have the market cornered on pushing the activity in a new direction, and have been doing so since, arguably, 2008. I haven't always enjoyed their shows. But I find it very hard to sit and say, "I've seen this before," when watching them perform. I apologize in advance for not fawning over this announcement to a sufficient enough degree.

  8. All good. Like SideXSide, X is a bit of an open and blank canvas allowing the designers to be creative in many ways we may not yet imagine. Music has verve, vitality, and contrasts a bit more than the Copland and Barber pieces of the last two seasons. I for one look to be impressed.

  9. Taking into account the current rules of the activity, what exactly would constitute something being considered "original" and/or "groundbreaking" in the activity in 2015 that we haven't already seen before in one form or another, either in the drum corps activity itself, or in the indoor ranks, or in marching band? What do people honestly expect from the Cadets (moreso than other groups for some reason) that would fall under the category of being truly original or groundbreaking?

  10. I love Shostakovich 10, and am very excited about this show. It's been used before by others, and well, left it pretty flat in my opinion, I think Cadets have the talent to make it happen.

  11. Absolutely! The band I teach played the Organ Sympnony in 1996 as part of an all-Saint Saens show, and that was the first thing people would say..."Oh, yes, that's the theme from Babe!"

  12. And I'll spend the season having flashbacks to the movie "Babe"

  15. Maybe you misunderstood what I meant, and, with the obvious huge chip on your shoulder (judging from your posts), you automatically took it the wrong way. In my post, I acknowledged that this show will probably be one of my favorites next year so I'm not sure why you took my comment the way you did. I simply meant the music isn't innovative in any way whatsoever (hard and fast music HAS been done before so not sure you can exclaim innovation there). This may have been a case where you should take comments at the surface rather than go too far deep into them.

  17. If you could hear them at all, then yes, they were miced. Wirelessly, obviously.

  18. Hmmm...if someone asks you what time it is, you can tell them "It's Scouts-o'clock" or "half-past-Colts" or "quarter to BK".

  20. Each show would start with repainting the hashes, and narration would include stuff about feeling persecuted by the judges. The show might even include some dividing up of the corps to represent the attempted YEA! "supporting" of Crossmen and how during this time YEA was an acronym for You Eat After the Cadets!

  21. None of the majors amplifies keyboard instruments by using actual mics - they use pickups located on the frame, which would NOT pick up sounds of non-key stroke actions around the frame (like guard members or bass drummers standing on the frame). As for Cavaliers, I was assuming that they had pickups on the marimbas, particularly since that instrument doesn't project well to begin with, and putting them further upstage would only make it worse. Perhaps one of their ageouts will chime in.

  22. Is that supposed to imply "x"champions..."x"originators..."x"leaders..."x"innovators..."x"pioneers of the activity??? In all honesty, I feel rather funny asking this question of "x"andandl. (Oh, there's gonna be hell to pay on this one. As I saw in a movie once..."this is gonna hurt....")

  24. Bucs 205 in DCA...a marching cymbal clinic. Hell, they even set tempos for the entire corps! now...in an echo chamber facility, you will lose the voice somewhat. But I'm glad to see another line back. Maybe even the snares doing some ride patterns!

  25. Ibex... What!???!!!! First off, yes it is multi-layered, never been done before, and complex, perhaps multi-dimensional BUT I thought the Cesario mandate stated shows were to be entertaining (are you thinking a Phantom death?), relatable to the audience, and suitable for the youth performers in this family arena. The source music is rather bland, even droll and dry. Although frenetic at times, focus often seem scattered in umpteen directions, some even in conflict. I am not even sure the judges would get it.

  26. Garfield, it pains me to point out that Aristotle was a Greek, and marched in the fourth century BC. The Greeks were basically G7 until about the first or second century AD, long after Aristotle aged out. They then dropped to open class for the next couple millennia. Now, the Romans were medaling until about 400AD, before going inactive due to poor management and Huns.

  27. Also... Visual: SCV '88 (I liked this ending much better than '89) Star '91 (cross to cross) and '92 (some people think it was cheesy, but seeing it live the first time was one of the most amazing thing I'd ever seen). Musically: sorry, I'm gonna have to go with Devils "When a man loves a woman" '92. Made me stop being a hater.

  30. I know Spokane Thunder is working on the 2015 season. We at the Columbians are waiting for our Brothers and sisters return to the active Drum Corps Field.

  31. As a former Crusader this may sound like heresy but I would start up the 27th Lancer's again. Why? because they were a distinctive Corp with a history and so I think it's a shame that they are now history, somewhat. It would also create a natural rivalry between two Corps from the same State bringing back some of that tension from the past. I would give the money to the alumni, probably the members of Mass Brass that I performed with, and let them handle the running of the Corp because I wouldn't be able to be involved for reasons that may be lost on our younger contributors but not on us older folk.
