The situation's been that bad that they prolly should have had them in hand awhile ago. Agree part of what is needed with the clueless statements going out. My thoughts are BoD needs to realize how their mindset should be instead running stupidness thru filters. IOW they need to look at themselves more and worry about “image” less. If the BoD didn’t mean to blow off the accusers in their first statement then they need PR people to help them with their words. If they did mean to blow off the accusers then it ain’t a PR problem it’s a BoD problem Edited April 10, 2018 by JimF-LowBari

The less of their own time they have to spend trying to figure out how to say things themselves and how to undo the damage that follows trying to say things themselves, the more time they have to focus on doing the right thing. Hope that is the idea here. Will try to keep an open mind but wonder how much of that first statement was bad wording and how much is how the BoD really feels. And problem was more than bad wording as if I read it right YEA did not get an independent person to investigate Edited April 10, 2018 by JimF-LowBari

The gold standard in crisis communications is the Johnson & Johnson response to the Tylenol poisoning situation in the 1980s. I was at the press conference where they laid out their response (J&J's corporate HQ in NJ was in our listening area) ... and it was 100 percent spot on. They took full responsibility, and took swift action to make sure it wouldn't happen again. If only the YEA board had followed the J&J playbook. JimF-LowBari
Been working for 35+ years and thinking of the changes in sexual harassment and other areas. Back then it was make excuses, talk around it or tell the victim not to make waves so everything seems ok on the surface (worry about image). Now it’s deal with the real problem and either counsel or remove the offender (hades with image correct/remove the problem). That’s why making this a PR problem bugs me Edited April 10, 2018 by JimF-LowBari

Obviously, the board is handling things terribly and the communications have been terrible. But, quite honestly, overall the communications from YEA/Cadets have been not so great for a long time (even discounting the GH stream of consciousness method). If they have recognized that they're over their heads in dealing with this from a communications front, that's great. It's what people 50 or 60 posts back were hoping for (for this particular aspect - clearer communication). But, as you say - the communications are one thing, and the substance is another. If they're not dealing with the substance, then all of this goes nowhere (or downhill faster).

YEA's communication has been absolutely miserable forever and as this story continues to build and easily take on a life of its own when passed from person to person, really clear, precise message control is imperative. That doesn't mean BS and lie about what has happened/is happening, it means communicate precisely. The early messaging in the scandal demonstrated that they were obviously completely incompetent at speaking without assistance. Hopefully some good will come from it. I've also been told that more women have come forward, like multiple times more. If that is confirmed, they REALLY have to be on top of their game while addressing it.
