  2. My kid just returned from his looong weekend that started with flying from Southern Cal to NYC, doing the Macy’s Parade, flying back Friday to SCV A-corps auditions in San Jose which concluded Sunday afternoon, then flying home. His report was positive on “...all three parts of the audition.” THREE parts, I asked? “Yes— music, marching & playing...and dance.” His dad: Time for some Pennsylvania Dutch eggnog...

  14. I don’t have a knee replacement yet but I do have stage 4 osteoarthritis in my right knee. I’m hanging in there and walking at least five miles a day. I’m sure doing high mark time on parking lots for a decade or more didn’t help.

  15. I only have a joint replacement in the one big toe. But Kris and her dad had the knee replacements and I can wait. Both had problems with the pain med. Wonder if there is a gene for visual hallucinations when on the good stuff lol. Anywhere from seeing non-existent cats out the corner of your eye to seeing your name written in sparkles on the ceiling (long story).

  16. ...with the Peace Sign drill we did to the tune in 1970. 1971's excellent "Yankee Doodle" opener that was reprised in the closer as part of the Revolutionary War show.

  17. That was our 1972 opener, as part of the "No More War" show...also did a bit in the closer as a reprise.

  18. I agree, that would awesome!!! Along with the Z-Pull and others, it was one of the Cadets' all-time signature visuals.

  21. Yeah... not bad for less than 40 hours of rehearsal time one day a week sandwiched smack in the middle of Field Season, eh? And the kids did not enjoy -5 wind chill involved. I think it was the first time many of them actually saw icicles form on the ends of brass bells. 😄 To piggyback on someone else's post (and to clarify the link to DCI).. RCCMT had performing members from the following 2018 Corps: Watchmen, Vessel, Gold, SC Vanguard Cadets (the SCVC DM was *not* a member this year, but one of the RCC DMs is a SCVC Alum), Pacific Crest, The Academy, Mandarins, Blue Stars, Oregon Crusaders, Blue Knights, Bluecoats and Blue Devils A. 23. I have two thoughts here. one, they should look at what SCV did in 2017. They have a long history, though not as long as Cadets, and they did a tremendous job representing all of their history. There are other great examples such as 27th “Once More in 94” and Bridgemen who always managed to create the flavor of the corps, but I felt SCV did an impressive job representing all eras of their history. Second, if you have the right folks, bringing people from as many eras as possible to brain storm could be of benefit. We’ve heard all sorts of stories over the years of alienated Cadets alumni due to a certain director. This can be a way of bringing people back. However, it has to be the right people facilitating. There are probably so many pent up feelings, it could easily go awry. Handled well, it could have great benefits. We have seen corps great at brining folks together and corps where tensions between the generations is very real.

  24. I think he meant "made/constructed of brass rather than insinuating they weren't "instruments of the brass family". Wow... if one wants to really delve into the discussion... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerophone There's a whole kind of gap regarding a Brass Instrument in that whole classification category in that it really doesn't matter what material the instrument is made of as long as you have the tube and one buzzes the lips to produce the sound. It's still a Labrosone or just a Brass Instrument.

  29. That young woman could get a good sound out of a #5 soup can. Plastic horns are ok when your 5 year-old thinks she wants to play trumpet and you're not sure she will actually stick with it, but they are probably a non-starter in drum corps. Then again, if you are starting a corps for 5 year-olds, they may be worth considering.
