All Colts designers and caption heads are returning. I wonder if they’ll continue to move up with that consistency.5 points

Mod hat here… Can we get reasonably on topic and get away from the stuff about Crown and BAC. It is verging on getting personal between posters.4 points

www.generaleffect.media does an excellent job . Look up top on their front page website . It has updated 2023 staff changes by corps, and by alphabetical order .3 points

I'd bet four years in a row with the same designer and caption head team is a first for them, at least in a long time. Like others, they seem to have learned the lesson BD has taught -- stability is necessary for sustained success.3 points

If you count it that way (very valid, I think), then Colts team has been intact for the past five years.2 points

I agree on the stability front. Accordingly, 2024 will be the 8th year for the design team/caption heads at BAC. And yes, I do count 2020, because even though the DCI season didn't happen, Boston's staff met virtually throughout the year and produced several different ZOOM productions to keep the members engaged. And yes, no argument from me in terms of the Blue Devils being the Gold Standard for staff stability.2 points

A few weeks back one of my trainers said in chat "Boss, you know that sometimes your old man humor isn't really funny, right?" A week later she asked me to order her a new X1 Carbon laptop for classes to which I replied (in chat) "You know xxxxx, sometimes your young person humor isn't really funny, right?"2 points

I believe all of DCI stole the "Spring Training" idea from Major Legue Baseball. We now return you to your previously scheduled bickering.2 points

Predictions until the season starts are all a wish list. That's why the only time BD is 3rd and 4th is on these lists. Then reality sets in.2 points

I'd say a substantial improvement over what Madison has had the last couple years.1 point

All depends on how much improved they are relative to how improved everyone else is.1 point

Again, the "going on first" thing is not as big a deal as some are making it out to be. While they are not a member corps, they are still a world-class corps. Therefore, at western shows they will appear one hour earlier than they otherwise would have. In a few shows approaching San Antonio, there will usually only be one or two open-class/SoundSport groups preceding them. At San Antonio, they will go on first in world-class. That could be five hours earlier than where they belong. But for the entire other half of the season, their performance slot will be determined by their recent competitive placings. Back to business as usual in that regard.1 point

Depends where you live. There’s DCI All Age, Open Class, and even Soundsport. here’s the real secret, from someone who marched a few years, taught in both dci and dca, and now plays music for money. anywhere you start, will teach you the fundamentals. Body movement, musicality, technique… but only YOU can have the drive to put in the time at home. On your own. You need to be self motivated to be a great performer. And you need to be self policing to get better. (This is true before auditioning as well as years after you’ve aged out) Whether it’s taping yourself and listening/watching it, practicing the same thing way down tempo until it becomes muscle memory, planning your practice time down to the minute to cover all aspects of technique, musicality, new phrases… etc. it’s up to you.1 point

In 1990, Crown held our everyday rehearsals at the Charlotte Parks and Rec Annex off Independence Blvd., across from the old Memorial Stadium, where NightBeat originated. We used a locked storage unit at the annex for instruments and equipment. Thankfully, we were able to move to the on-campus setting at Belmont Abbey College starting in 1991. The Annex was truly awful but it served its purpose, I guess.1 point

I know for a fact Crown was holding "everydays" at Belmont Abby College in 1991 (their second competitive year). They may have been there the year before, as well. I think drum corps have been holding spring training/pre-tour/everydays at college campuses for decades (well before the 2000s)1 point

Some reaction videos are actually interesting and informative. Funliner is made up of 3 Bloo/BD alums who have a lot of insight. Everett Kim (the Asian guy) is also a score writer. So watching their reaction videos are great. This girl... If you enjoy watching a fresh set of eyes share his/her opinions/critique, this girl is for you. If not, don't watch them.1 point

If everyone is over the Potter team leaving, why does Crown-North keep popping up in the Crown threads?1 point

Smiling at the thought, but I'm not sure what that gets you. Sandi and Paul have written the Troopers charts for 10 years, and Lauren Teel, who is from the same UNT pool, has been teaching them. Looks like it's been a successful arrangement so far1 point
