  1. Wow.... that sucks for the kids that tried out and got contracted at Troopers. It was no secret that guard was the Troopers weak link last season. Getting a new staff in would have put a buzz into that section and that is now gone. Imagine going to Troopers to age out, thinking one thing and then after contracts were given out finding out its something different. Hope they have a plan.

  2. ... and every mountain and hill made low. But a more appropriate wish for drum corps would be the next lyrics ... to make "the crooked straight".

  4. I was one of the biggest fans of their show last year on here. Just want to see them keep growing!

  5. It's all love brother. I will keep it 💯, me and my son was nervous at halftime lol. But Purdy put the team on his back and carried us in the second half. For real though, Detroit is legit. Us Niners fans have crazy respect for them. Lions are a young team. They will be a threat for years to come.

  6. Is anyone going to—wait for it—pony up for the Triple Crown Suite option at NightBEAT?

  7. Apparently, the Lions didn’t either

  8. Even though it's not likely, I truly hope and pray they somehow make it through this. Losing any corps sucks, especially one as storied as the Cadets. Despite the negative image that Hopkins and Co. brought onto the organization, there is still an incredible legacy left behind. On a side note: I loved that line in the article that talked about how "nobody marched faster." That made me giggle for a sec, because one time when I was watching the 2005 show on YouTube, they were marching so fast in the opener that I had actually thought the video was being sped up for a second. I had to double check to make sure the playback speed was set to "normal." Absolutely mind-blowing technique.

  9. lol, we're lucky to get anything besides uniform/costume pics and maybe music reps from some of these corps by mid June. Some of these staffs think their band designs are actually important in any way. Truly absurd. But hey, I'll take it to hear a Klesch or Thrower music special or to see whatever whacked out concept Bloo, Crown and others come up with.

  10. I almost missed this, but the Blue Stars recently posted a video of their 2023 program, In-ABSINTHE-ia, from the DCI World Championships Semifinals. This is a high cam video the corps took from the top deck of Lucas Oil Stadium. https://medi-nerd.com/2024/01/29/2023-blue-stars-high-cam-semifinals-video/

  12. Well, since the move in ‘15 to WS, I’ve always said—even as nice as Crown Club seating/accommodations are—I’d jump at the opportunity for a suite. They called my bluff, so I’m all in…

  13. Very little of the guard at any corps is contracted at this stage of the off-season. Troop hasn't even really begun Guard audition camps, AFIK. The February camp is brass, perc and conductors.

  18. That’s not really bad. We paid almost twice that much for a lower tier bowl game last year and we were definitely not feted in a suite. Almost makes me want to go.

  19. It's me again 🙂 Ummm........... so 2019 was the last audit without any screaming red flags, and even that audit was submitted 4 years late. Then 2020 wasn't audited at all since their total revenues fell below $2M at a close $1.95M (which is very suspect). It's not going to happen. Even I would admit that's a waste of time and resources. Then the audit that did get them out of the dog house was for TWO YEARS. So really......... if the audits were done on time then they would be two consecutive audits screaming red flags. FY2019 = audit submitted 4 years late. FY 2020 = no audit at all. FY 2021 = audit cannot verify any bingo revenue/expenses, nor the property/equipment, nor cash and cash equivalents. FY 2022 = audit cannot verify any bingo revenue/expenses, nor the property/equipment, nor cash and cash equivalents. FY 2023 = due in 45 days (mid March) *************** What are the odds the crew that ran all of 2021 and 2022 who were there for all of 2023 (remember the new CEO only came on at the very end of 2023) are going to magically have cleaned up 2023 while throwing 21 and 22 to the wolves? ***Have folks READ the audit opinion??? Clearly the new CEO just had to give up and take it on the chin and forced the audit to completion for the sake of compliance. None of it was on his shoulders.*** I've been there. I gave up on reconciling to the financials prior to my time on the board. We just took a fresh inventory to get a footing on the balance sheet and went from there. We didn't have to tie back to a prior year that was audited so it worked out. Anyway.............. I'm really hoping for a strong showing of Cavies and Phantom (probably not, I really don't know). Come the west coast shows some hearts are going to be racing praying to God the Mandarins don't beat them. I mean the last time I beat the Mandarins I was a Vanguard Cadet under the very same director the Mandarins are run by now. If Mandarins don't beat SCV this year they are never going to do it. Anyway.................. Bingo is very exposed. They are not in a position to know (so says their auditors) what they will earn with it, and as such is going to wreak havoc during tour. The CEO they hired was basically told to go get them on the road and to finals, and at no point did he have any input on the building of the economic foundation or justification of that decision, and only a few weeks ago was he told by his CPA firm all the financial information he has is erroneous. Right? The BEST INFORMATION the CEO has access to for decision making his CPA firm cannot make heads or tails of it. ************** If I were SCV I would dump the CPA firm, and try and find one hard up for clients and less scrupulous.

  21. Today Bluecoats and the University of Mount Union announced the signing of a long-term agreement that will keep the Bluecoats Spring Training, The Blue Way Summer Arts Camp, Bluecoats Opening Night Community Celebration, and the Bluecoats Fellowship Residency in Stark County for the next five years. 22. My cousins are Lions fans. I told them, "I feel for you, after all its only once every 20 years or so you get to have hope." It's somewhat tempered by the fact that they're also U of M alums and went to both games.

  25. Was just nostalgically watching Plymouth Canton HS’s amazing take on Harmonium from 2001 and I agree! Great piece, amazingly hard to field, would be so interesting to see modern SCV try their hand, even if it doesn’t really seem to be their style these days …

  27. People who fell in love with drum corps in the past 10-15 years fell just as hard for what they saw and heard as you did. Your tastes aren't universal nor are they superior. Another ghost to give up.

  29. From what I heard after the last camp, the staff is extremely excited about 2024. Several veterans across all sections have returned and the brass book is exciting/challenging. Word is they sounded incredible. I have a feeling they will be very competitive this summer. Can't wait to see/hear them.

  31. This time of year is tough. I like the suspense, but I also wish there was earlier transparency on themes. It’d be great if DCI had a reveal day each March where all the corps present their concepts.

  32. I just looked up may payment for Box 5 this year. I got all of the BOA shows for $140. That included a discount (I think $20) for being a return subscriber. That got me live streaming of about 20 shows around the country including all three days for Grand Nationals. I had no complaints with that price. The only thing I didn't like was on the days when there were multiple shows happening and you couldn't go back and watch what you missed.
