I sure appreciate it. The boys can play! Totally appreciate it! But the sheets don't/can't in the comparison. They have to know that going in to the design. Just back from theatre - I think Colts should have passed Academy tonite. It is way too late in season for crooked files (Do they still teach 'cover down'?), members missing their dot, and interval problems. The baritones looked like they were marching a hole half the time, and not the other half. And it wasn't because there was a solo bari going on. But what do I know? I am just an old flatus PS, loved Cadets, Boston, Blue Devils & SCV Edited August 10, 2018 by IllianaLancerContra

Popular Post KVG_DC
Back from the theater. Some thoughts: 1. Mandarins were good but they seemed nervous. They didn't quite have the swagger they've been coming out with. Now that they're pretty safely in finals, hopefully they can loosen up. 2. Corps that got the most response at my theater (which was pretty tepid in responses in general) Cadets, BAC (particularly the ending), Cavies, SCV. Responses to Crown and BD were notably a kind of "well, that's good" applause. Bloo and Blue Stars got moderately good applause, it's an older crowd at my theater so i think the jazz and the Carpenters melodies were a hit. SCV's mello sustains got the most response followed by the Cadet's Z-pull. 3. Theater at this stage of the game was very revealing of the bass goo. I didn't notice so much at the premier show, but tonight, you could really tell who uses it. Something about how the theater sound system handles artificial low bass through its SFX or something must reveal it more? BK and BD stood out as primary offenders, Bloo had their moments of it as well. 4. Bloo's run was on fire. It got good response at my theater but not notably better or worse than average responses. Everyone has tightened up since I last saw them. Shows are cleaner than ever. Other random things that happened in my head: 1. I think SCV is winning percussion primarily on the strength of their pit, although the snares really stand out at times too. They're all good, but it seems like SCV's pit really stands ahead. 2. Conversely, I think Bloo's percussion problems are in their pit. Aside from the 'cool' look, they're not terribly notable in the show it seems. 3. Percussion judge is an ###. He almost took out BD's characters as they ran to enter the painting at the end. And was grinning like an idiot about it. I think last year or the year before didn't he actually run THROUGH two guard members doing some duet move at one point? He needs to be taken off the field judge rotation. 4. BK's show is really excellently written and performed. I'm just a bit baffled by the Egyptianesque theme visually. There's nothing in the show that seems to call for that particular visual theme and it sort of sticks out like it doesn't belong. 5. Conversely, BS's show takes it's theme a bit too literally with the carpenters playing the Carpenters thing, but it works because the music is so melodic and the theme, while a bit corny of a take, doesn't stick out as a "why this visual theme?" thing. 6. BD is #### good. But, for me, it suffers from the "not being last year's brilliance" thing they run into. if I hadn't gushed over BD's ballad last year for the ENTIRE OFF SEASON, I probably would groove to Natural Woman more. One of the things about being as dominant as BD, if you're not superlative above your own standard, it stands out as a "weaker' show, even when it's #### good. 7. That said, SCV is earning this championship. That show is amazing. Like Cadets 2000, there's something going on (often multiple things) all the time and yet your eye knows where to go because of how they direct you. It's full of "I can't wait until the part where..." "now can't wait until they do..." moments and they just string through the whole show. 7

No system is perfect. Splitting the responsibility for caption awards among three judges, as the current system does, seems more fair to me. Though I suppose the G.E. caption could be based on just one night, since there are already four judges.

JMO SCV will increase their gap. Medalist will stay the same but I believe we will see some movement in Crown / Boston / Cavaliers / Cadets Don't think bluecoats can catch bd?
