My son and I have been packing him up for the last few days. He can't wait to get there on Saturday. I'm extremely excited for him but sad to see him go. It is going to be a special summer in Crown land, I can feel it. I'll catch up with him in San Antonio and Indy of course. Here we go.....8 points

Because I don't have the money? It's called inflation. Unfortunately I have the budget for something like north Houston (I don't live in Houston anymore as I own land in a different area of east Texas). I am not in the mood to argue over being a fan. Money is the true issue. I'm glad you have the funds bud.5 points

What I'm learning as I read this conversation is that beads have apparently been subject to inflation as well.4 points

Yes. But, personally I say let it sleep. Let it stand as a beacon, possibly the beacon of modern drum corps as we know it, and as a cautionary tale of the realities of behavior and consequences in youth activities. It's not binary, one or the other. It's both. Besides, pick any top corps. You've got Rarick designing Bluecoats percussion forever now. You've got Derek Gipson running their brass. You've got Jared Huntley running visual. You've got Dan Riley captioning SCV guard. Cavaliers has Aungst & Stratton advising. You've got Sacktig, Klesh & Scully on design at Crown. And while his resume is far more expansive than just Cadets, let's not forget that Harloff was at Cadets brass staff late 90s (that jump in brass quality in 98). At Boston, 7 out of 11 design team members marched at or taught at Cadets. Brass & Battery instructional staff for the most part were literally the Cadets staff before it exploded. Hell, even at Blue Devils the electronics manager is a former Cadet. Let the corps rest and be at peace. What makes things in life special is that they end. You want to see the Cadets? Watch DCI drum corps in general. The Cadets are everywhere.4 points

How the beads work during Mardi Gras is a complicated subject. Suffice it to say, the more elaborate the beads, the more effort required to obtain them4 points

Sort of, but with less disgust. Many of us here are stakeholders both in Vanguard and the activity as a whole. All of us care about it. You don't have to care about it the same way I do. In fact, that we do so in different ways is actually a good thing. https://www.liveabout.com/stakeholder-2502118 I'm positive they agree with you. Good work. A great way to regard alumni. Nice personal jab. You claimed something false and I pointed that out. My legal name and rep are attached to this account. Anything positive you'd like to say about my corps to change the topic?3 points

So...are they proud to present it or not? 𤣠I presume the post-bot can't handle the diacritic accent and rendered it as a ? after the letter. But it's amusing.3 points

Thanks for sharing, but the audience here would probably prefer to watch a livestream of the crews disassembling the pool and installing the new turf in Lucas Oil.3 points

i think here is the problem.......they have stated they wanted to be more transparent right? yet we only hear sruff, usually after RL posted stuff and it exploded around the interwebs. if RL had not actually posted all he had, i doubt any of it would have come to light at all.....not exactly transparent. so SCV, IMO, needs to stop being REACTIVE and be PROACTIVE. even if the news isn't always great, and they don't have to go item line by item line with details....anything other than crickets to many folks like they are hiding. Just saying you're back and to trust the process isn't enough given all that has gone down the last 4 years.3 points

Not sure if it's still done, but there was a time where Crown would post not only their daily schedule on Facebook all the way down to wake up and lights out times, but what they were serving for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack.3 points

For anyone thinking of relocating, make sure the health care is fairly good. Iâm getting blood work done today and snow is looking better all the time.3 points
-
Yeah, this simply is not true. Also, why is it negative to "demand" transparency with regard to rehearsal/housing locations? Especially from an organization who has promised more transparency since having major issues that all but scuttled the corps? Just because you don't agree doesn't make it negative in any way.3 points
-
I live in CA and agree. We've considered leaving the country and moving back to Texas. đ3 points
-
No. The thread âALL discussion on SCV hereâ is the title of the thread which allows for ALL discussion. Not negative as much as it includes reality. That includes criticisms and apologists but as yet, nothing about their 2024 program. That announcement is expected soon and eagerly awaited. So no, not hijacked, and the only negativity is the continued lack of communicating solutions.3 points

I got a bit of insider information. The theme is going to be Reconciliation and Redemption. They will start with Oops I Did It Again by Britney Spears. Followed by Blame Game by Kanye West. Then as they transition to the Reconciliation part of the show, Please Forgive Me by Bryan Adams. Then finish with moving and inspirational excerpts from Mahlerâs Resurrection Symphony. It promises to be a great return to the field by the 2024 Vanguard.3 points

Eight statesâAlaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyomingâhave no state income tax. New Hampshire taxes only dividends and interest income. Twenty-six states have state income taxes, but they don't tax military retirement benefits: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Eleven states tax military retirement benefits, but only partially. These states include Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Maryland, New Mexico, Oregon, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. The District of Columbia also taxes military benefits partially. Five states tax military retirement pay fully and offer little to no tax benefits for retirement income: California, Montana, Rhode Island, Utah, and Vermont.3 points

What? Most corps post their daily rehearsal sites and daily schedules every year. Most arenât published yet, but as spring training starts, theyâll be more filled out.2 points
-
And not just for the A corps. You can go to BDs calendar and see that BDC has a rehearsal tomorrow evening at 6:50pm, and both BDB and BDC have rehearsal's this weekend.2 points
-
If SCV followed through on their visibility statements then the possibility of a negative hijack would be minimal.2 points
-
Respectfully, I just checked BD and BAC websites, and they post information about spring training move-in dates and sites. I have not checked other corps, but feel free.2 points
-
That info has been shared in board meetings that are open to the public. Move in final weekend of May, as is customary for the corps... and they are moving in to the University of Idaho, which is less customary but saves them money. Camp info, especially dates, has always been shared, with or without exact location included IIRC. If stakeholders and alumni want this info, I'm pretty sure they just need to send an email. As I've said before, if the org doesn't want info shared, they either shouldn't share it, or tell stakeholders what they want kept under wraps. Most stakeholders will be glad for the info and will joyfully keep it to themselves. Secrecy is not becoming for a non profit, though, unless it's for security purposes.2 points
-
Well, now letâs be fair. Your - why would you need to know that - comment on page one didnât really kick this off on the right foot.2 points
-
I think the declaration from the org. to provide visibility, is what they are actually expected to provide. Not just continuing lip service. To actually provide visibility and follow through on what they say they will do. We see statements with no follow up, no status updates on where they are with fixing their financial ship in the past 2 years they have had to do so. They are a non profit org, involved in a larger youth activity, raising and spending funds with the welfare of kids at stake. Not to mention donors contributing money and not knowing where it all goes. This smacks of organizational ego that doesnât like being questioned, when questioning practices (on a few levels) is exactly what is warranted. The longer it takes for the compliance to be completed, the increase in questions grows. It begins to appear that they are unable to fix it or something more nefarious has occurred. But then this is just my opinion. Itâs possible others share this opinion.2 points

The last time I was on UR's field (JMU MRDs were performing) my tuba bell was hit with a beer can, as were many of us. Scratch that... that was halftime. The real last time was when we performed post game... and they shut the stadium lights off on us in the middle of our performance. lol good times đ You're right, though... it'd be a good stadium for a show!2 points

Not every fan has the motive, means and opportunity to travel freely to different show locations amid all the different financial, work, family, health and transportation challenges people face. Curious about this idea. Would the other half of the corps be touring elsewhere at that time?2 points
-
Just finished listening to it. It's very interesting. It gives me 2019 vibes. The way some of it sounds, makes me visualizing parts of different brass sections playing it facing backfield while other brass sections playing at the same time but facing front field. The reverb would be insane.2 points

Actually it will be three. Gotta go to Pacific Crest family day here in SoCal to support @spacewill kid. Super excited for PC this year. How awesome would it be if California got four corps into finals!2 points
