  1. Boston Crusaders 2018: "S.O.S." (Musical selections at the end of the video)

  2. First post for me. Father of a new Spirit (and first-time DCI) member. Excited for him and the corps this year. Hopefully on an upward trajectory. Been following the activity for 5 years now. What these young men and women do on the field is beyond amazing to me. Wishing everyone in the activity this year - members, staff, the many volunteers, judges - a healthy and safe 2018 DCI season.

  3. Dear Cadets Family, I've been associated with the corps since the 1991 season, and was a huge fan as a teen when I saw Doug conduct a show that didn't just transform drum corps, nor just transcended the drum corps idiom, but transformed and transcended every individual on the field and in the stands to create a timeless experience of grace and beauty and community. That incredible people like Doug and Scott are at the helm with Tom and Drew and so many amazing others, all gives me not just hope, but knowledge, absolute certainty, that something special is happening. Something beautiful, and for the ages. As I posted on this forum a few times in the last couple years (including calling publicly for a resignation multiple times), that once a change of the guard occurs, the Cadets community would come together like never before, and that alumni and friends would come forth to support the corps and carry it forward into a new era of unity and excellence. It's happening. The Cadets have weathered the era of "me" and have again become "We". And a larger, more inclusive and united "We" than ever before. Like the finale of 1987, we dissolved into chaos, scattered and confused, but then came together into a Unity that embraces everyone from 1934 to 2018 and beyond. I am so jealous of all you members right now. I feel what you feel. With every push-up and every warm-up, with every scale, drop of sweat, split lip, teary eye, pulled muscle, run-through, we all are with you. And more - with every hug, pat on the back, smile, cheer, and song, and with every single expression of the love and community and creativity and solidarity that has made The Cadets the oldest, greatest, most innovative, most accomplished organization in all of Drum Corps - the marching members Unite everyone in the Cadets family, and everyone in Drum Corps. This is the Cadets year. This is your year. We are all so jealous of you, and we are all so united behind and among you. For Unity Shall Always Be. 1987 has been my favorite show of all time, and I love so many, from so many corps. I know little about this year's show. I am on the edge of my seat to find out, to see, to feel Unity. Finally, I'm again thrilled for a Cadets season! Like the old Garfield tee shirt: First we zigged, Then everybody zigged....ZAG! I do know one more thing with all my heart: 2018 is already my favorite Cadets show of all time. Thank you to everyone in the Cadets management and staff - all the volunteers, the employees who have sacrificed so much, the new leadership, the old leadership, the United leadership! Thank you especially to the marching members who, with every step, take the corps forward to experiment, challenge, and create beautiful music and art while creating beautiful people who change every life they touch. You've already won gold. All of you. Now go out and win it every day! FHNSAB! FOR UNITY SHALL ALWAYS BE!

  6. as much as i think everyone wants him gone, the key is you need a procedure in place or you end up making up new rules on the fly anytime an issue happens. As I stated before, DCi kind of has this thing called the season thats already started with spring training in many places....they kinda have other priorities. and lets be honest...DCI making #### up on the fly has them kinda in the situation they're in right now

  8. ALL Corps should do more of these, and more often, and in the winter camps too. Theres no " licensing issues", no " theme/ music/ show reveals ", etc I mean,.. what the heck is the harm in doing these types of audio/ videos and having it released to the fans in the winters/ spring ? As near as I can tell...... NONE !

  9. Well....the directors are kind of focused on the season that starts in a few weeks right now. And with all of the other fires out there, it may not be top of mind. Chatted with Tricia today. I'll be honest, I expressed some of the skepticism of her motives that has been stated here and elsewhere to her upfront, and she gets it. The activity has her intrigued on multiple levels, and she is not looking to bring "DCI DOWN". She like many of us, was horrified with what she heard, the action or inaction of others over the years, and wants to help root out the bad guys and get everything to run better. We joked that despite all of the complaints on DCP in it's 16 year history, and RAMD before that, her work and that of Jacci Ferris has done more good for drum corps than anything we've said on here, even with me leaking the G7 stuff in 2010. She's welcome to pre-game at a show with me anytime she wants

  12. In the eyes of the public, such as people reading the Inquirer, it is inaction. So, we'll just agree to disagree on this one. How was it possible for Crossmen to act to remove GH from their HOF but not DCI? I won't buy the "it's too hard" excuse. Do you think, in the end, there is any chance at all, any chance more than zero percent, that he won't be removed from the HOF? Then get to it.

  13. The HOF committee, from what I read, is only empowered to collect nominations and supporting documentation. The committee does not decide who gets in (or out) - never has. Voting for who gets into the HOF is done by the current HOF members and DCI corps directors. If you think DCI should have addressed the HOF issue in an expedited manner... join the club. But just because it is slower than we would like, does not make it either "delay" or "inaction".

  15. 1978 - The first year I understood what I was watching and SCV won their 3rd title in Denver. 1980 - My favorite year of the top 12, top to bottom. I was in A-town at DCI East when 27th beat BD. I thought it would carry through to Finals. Not to be. BD was awesome in B-ham. What a year though. 27th and Bridgemen represented the East well, Spirit's horn and drumline, Madison's closer, SCV's Stone Ground Seven and drill, Crossmen, Cavies' step over company front, North Star's last year in Finals and Blue Stars first year out. Hard to believe that is 38 years ago.

  16. To me, just watching the Finals broadcast, that 27th was solid at Finals, but for whatever reason it seemed that it wasn't their best run. Not quite flat, but just a bit out of steam. You and me, watching the same show, with different perspectives. LOL. Gotta be honest.... in hindsight, knowing now that 1980 Finals would be the Lancers' last, best shot at a DCI title... I wish they had won that night in Birmingham. So close.

  20. I'm not sure why I keep getting internal server errors when I try to post... That said...I have a feeling this show is going to be a real tear jerker. I DO love the music selections. It's a pretty easy to follow theme IMO. Looking forward to the premiere! :) finally posted without 505 error

  21. IMO it’s another colossal failure. More CYA! More razzel dazzle. I’m of the opinion - what do you think you’re going to know in September that you don’t already know now? It’s a lot easier to say the HOF committee will decide than to step up take ownership as ED and act responsibly. State: As ED I’ve made the decision to ban GH from all DCI events until the HOF committee meets in September and makes final determination on his status. If found to be in attendance at a DCI event - Mr. Hopkins will be escorted from the premises.

  22. If you told me the Cavies would have placed 8th at the start of the 2012, I would have laughed. There will come a time when BD isn't in the top 2, or even top 3 or 4. Will it be this year? Who knows.

  26. Not to offend the sensibilities of Michael Boo who has stated on DCP he hates bagpipes, if bagpipes were allowed in drum corps, I would love a bagpipe ending for "Amazing Grace," especially one similar to a recording buy the Royal Scottish Dragoon Guards ("Spirit of the Glen). As I say this, it would not fit the show theme as presented by the video (great job on the announcement video, by the way), but I love a combination of bagpipes/instrumentation of "Amazing Grace."

  27. I agree it looks like inaction. I've been on Hall of Fame Committees before for a Catholic high school and grammar school, and I don't think I've ever seen a procedure for removing someone, but the head of school would have that authority. A Hall of Fame is supposed to bring honor and credibility to an organization and anything that would hurt that reputation has to be taken seriously. Granted, with the two organizations I've been involved with, there was never a reason to remove anyone. However, being a member of a Hall of Fame is a privilege and honor, not a right. My thought is that it was run by legal counsel who recommended waiting.

  31. If they do can we remove all the changes he implemented over his career because of the taint that will have surrounded them?
    2 points
  32. No. No one has yet been removed from the DCI hall of fame, and there is no established process by which to do so.
    2 points
  33. well to be honest, DCI has never announced any kind of ban to the masses. There may be an internal one

  35. Ding, Ding, Ding, We have a winner. And that is why the old BOD fought like hell to stay in place. New board was ready to go by Sunday. Old board hung on until late Tuesday. Almost brought the whole organization down as a result. Thankfully, that did not happen, but it was close.

  36. If this had happened ten years ago, prior to G7, I think GH could have gone to a show and would have had his supporters. He still could have some fans out there, remember DCP is not exactly where he felt the love. In the wider world, there is zero tolerance for his alleged activity. It would be best for him to stay home.

  39. Here is the problem. With Hopkins still a HOF Member he has an access pass to EVERY DCI show this summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    2 points
  40. Yes, both are good ideas. DCI should have an internal reporting process for the types of internal grievances that DCI can fairly/effectively referee. And for issues that fall in the whistleblower category, there should be a fourth party reporting process in place. Take the George Hopkins situation as an example. His corps partnered financially with DCI. He participated in DCI governance and had considerable influence. Would you feel assured that if you reported directly to DCI, that they would put conflict of all-that-interest aside and listen to you?

  43. Some of they key people of 1980 felt the show was not what DCI East had been though not George Zingali. If you remember the broadcast, he was about ready to explode. I also recall reading in the historic thread some Blue Devils felt their show was off, and like you thought it would go to Bridgemmen. When I saw 27th early in 1981, I was certain they would win the title, but there was a great deal of turmoil that would happen down the road and the season ended up being erratic. Also SCV and Madison were in stronger form. However, like a true Bostonian, I always root for the home team. I will not deny that I can be a bit biased towards Boston Crusaders and I’ll always miss 27th and North Star. I also knew people who marched in each corps. Probably the reason I’m still alive today is I never said which I liked best.

  45. honestly......I am thrilled they survived. To me, regardless where they place, is the HYPE. I said it before, I'll say it again, I expect great audience reactions just by coming on the field. Mainly because of who won't be walking in front of them
