Is that an image of the Boston Crusader's spring training camp after their final runthrough of Wicked Games before leaving for tour?6 points

We tried to watch it. I made it 5 minutes longer than Britt did...which was about 10 minutes lol. I managed to build a cue to sell though so I guess that's good.5 points

Still no show announcement. They haven’t released their schedule. Lots of open spots. It’s bad leadership I tells ya!5 points

So you think this is the only generation that has worked hard and made use of petitions? Seriously, petitions have been around for centuries. People running for public office have had to have petitions signed. Referendum questions on a ballot require petitions. Petitions are not new tools of the young. They are as old as democracy. Keep a few important things in mind. Most of drum corps is dedicated to marching members. All of us who love drum corps are broken hearted about the young people losing the opportunity to march. However, many of the people who make drum corps a reality for young people have lost their jobs. Michael Boo is a beloved and dedicated member of the drum corps community. If you are able, read Michael Boo’s Facebook page and you’ll see another side of the reality of the loss of a drum corps season, his livelihood. Let’s let the dust settle first. As a nation we are all worked up, and staying in place has given us time to fill. The most important priority for drum corps now is survival.3 points

And then everybody who gets cut in 2021, 2022, 2023... until all the Johnnys and Jennys age out... should get another year.3 points

i said it a few days in a thread somewhere on here. it's happened before...Surf i believe after Sandy3 points

It’s already been done and it was announced in the statement regarding cancellation of the season. DCI does not need petitions of this sort since they already made the correct move. They also don’t need clutter when they are facing such shortfalls and the reality of laying off some good and dedicated folks.3 points

I like the thought of helping out but letting FEMA anywhere near a food truck would result in the corps losing their food truck.3 points

My understanding is that the voting membership agreed to take that question up down the line, after they've had time to consider the options. In any case, this type of "what about ME???!!!" bull___ at the point in time when the leaders of the entire activity needs to figure out how to survive the next 12 months is the epitome of self-centeredness. They'll get to the 18 year olds, in good time. I would argue that if those who are currently contracted and have more than one year left really care about the fate of the activity, that they start figuring out how to raise about $12,000,000 this summer to sustain it, because that's on the very low end of what it's going to take to keep everyone going until next spring.2 points

The way Salvation Army, Red Cross & many other relief groups run kitchens is to just show up & start feeding people. I personally witnessed this after 9-11 at Pentagon - they just showed up & started feeding responders, construction workers (who also 'just showed up'). Same thing in Louisiana after Katrina - they drove south until they couldn't get any further & that is where they first set up shop. Dealing with some local gov't to 'rent' our food truck is likely way down the priority list for governments. If a Corps has a lot of food on hand that will go bad before the 2021 season they could load up the truck & go to the nearest Covid-19 hotspot. But they shouldn't expect reimbursement.2 points

If each corps desiring to do this approached a government agency to run the operation, either local or FEMA, then the above would really not be an issue. Similar types of things where companies are loaning trucks and trailers are already being done.2 points

Dare I predict that Drum Corps camps for the 2021 season will be well under way before we see GH go in trial? Unless he makes a plea deal.2 points
-
They are releasing non-violent offenders who have completed at least part of their sentences first. GH is accused of Sexual Assault. This is a violent crime. If convicted, he will not be assigned to a minimum security facility. In addition, when it comes to "normal" parole, one big factor the parole board looks at is 'has the convict admitted his crimes & is repentant?' So GH would also have to get over that (mental) hurdle as well. (I also understand that at this point he has pled 'not guilty', and is considered innocent until proven guilty. But if convicted, he is by definition been proven guilty; at some time after that he would first meet the parole board). Also, the Covid-19 outbreak will likely wreak havoc on the court schedule - so it may be a while before GH sees his day in court. And no one knows what the Covid & Convicts (that has a nice ring to it) situation will be at that point. It is also possible that he accepts the plea deal that has been offered. But we won't know that until the next court date (currently listed as 16 April; suspect that will change) at the earliest. I cannot imagine that in this day & age a plea deal for Sexual Assault would not include prison time, but I have been surprised in the past.2 points

As an equipmment trailer driver for a corps. Food trailers set up at Interstate rest areas would be something that would work. No need to exit and hunt for a drive thru (could not fit anyway). Avoid hunting for service in strange areas. Not having to deviate from destination. Basic burgers , fresh veggies. The trailers are large enough to give validity, and the method of dispensing food is quite acceptable for the conditions.. getting a vendor and health certificate would not be difficult given the situation. They would be instant highway diners, without leaving the highway and getting into congested areas. Possibly months of revenue for corps.2 points

I read all the way to the end waiting for you to reveal you are being sarcastic 😉. Along with food they can set up a souvie stand. And heck, pop in a DVD so people can watch some drum corps.2 points

My first thought was that FEMA could hire their food trucks to possibly feed health care workers at the field hospitals that are being set up on both the East & West coasts. Of course, the Army Corps of Engineers may already have this covered.2 points

The manpower relationship between DCI and the member corps is exactly inverse right now - the corps have many more resources available to do their own marketing and fundraising than DCI does, especially in light of this week's staff reductions. DCI"s primary job right now is to figure out how to survive. This year, they'll have no ticket revenues from shows, no media products to sell, etc, etc - in short, they have no predictable sources of revenues for the foreseeable future. Given that their practical necessity to the activity as the producer of the major events is greater than any single corps' ability to survive, they'll need to put on their own air mask before they even consider helping anyone else next to them.2 points

I figure you guys are probably aware, but just in case. The Madison Scouts has decided to pursue classes with staff and current members throughout the summer. They are also hoping for a week or two in late July or August to bring the corps together to get somewhat of a summer experience. I thought the email and video were excellent. My kid will be participating and in return, contracts will be extended to 2021. Still a Madison Scout family socially distant! 💚⚜️🤍2 points

YES! 😁 with either, i'll still be happy. Yes it's BD world indeed, that is how it is like it or not. Any group going for the gold have to rise to the occasion and best BD. Even when BD don't have the most popular or liked show , or having a challenging year, they are still dangerously great. That says alot about a group. That is just one point out of many what made it BD world.1 point
-
Question to my fellow BD honks........what is more important to you, BD getting the elusive three peat, or continuing their insane run of top 2 finishes, which now stands at 13 in a row. To put this into perspective, the 2021 age-outs would have been 6-7 years old last time Devs was third or worse! All the other corps might get an occasional title here and there, but let's keep it 100, like it or not its BDs world and we are all living in it.1 point

You forgot to add - “now get off my lawn!!” Ok just kidding. I can’t get past how you do the accounting on this. Johnny is a 17 year old member of the Madison Scouts - oh wait let’s go with Jenny! Ok Jenny is a 17 year old contracted member of Madison Scouts. Ok so Jenny gets another year, so five years from now someone’s going to keep track that Jenny gets another year. Although quite frankly, any college graduate should probably be moving on, but that’s just my opinion. So - what a mess. How do you keep track? Not necessary.1 point

The 2020 show concept & repertoire are stored in the Ark of the Covenant. It is not to be opened until the time stated in prophesy ordained by you know who. 😇1 point

DCI has essentially zero revenue other than the production of shows. The thundering cry of the masses to "cancel the season" forced them into an action that eliminates their only means of survival. No shows, no money. It's like you bring the virus home to your family, and they make you take the pill and off yourself to prevent any of them from getting sick. The problem is, the whole family was dependent on you to begin with, and now faces starvation.1 point

THIS is a GREAT job for the DCI office to coordinate! Get every corps that agrees to rent it's kitchen to feed the people in the temporary hospitals. Unfortunately, like food trucks, they'll have to coordinate to prevent people bunching up at the window, but this might be a way to generate income on assets for each corps that has a truck. HockeyDad will be pleased, and I'm HIGHLY impressed that you (yes, especially YOU ) came up with it.1 point
