This season is probably the closest the show design has been to 2012 than at any time since that show (music wise). I don’t get the vibe that it’s dark at all.5 points

No idea what happened. But still going to comment that it is really tough to get all of this right. It may be that Vanguard is jumping the gun and poorly communicating. It may also be that Vanguard is jumping out in front of a situation and acting fast, as so many here and elsewhere have argued needs to be done in many cases. No idea. Just tough. Certainly impossible to please everyone + act quickly, especially if someone's safety or health is an issue + be mindful of due process + be attentive to liability issues.4 points

Facebook is the MonkeyPox of social media. I note the associated members of SCV that were also let go.3 points

You should set up a website and have t-shirts to sell that say "Pageantry Leeches." Then have a booth where you sell these t-shirts.3 points

Considering they were slow on the draw on a couple of other individuals. I’ll say no more.3 points

Hypothetically, The Blue Devils could tour only one week prior to Indy and they would probably still win finals.3 points

Tim Hintons newest podcast talks to the directors of Colts, Surf and Madison, and a staggering thought came up, which i know has been debated in many threads here. the average cost to house, feed, transport and of course things like insurance is $9800 per kid...and dues run in the $5k range. they specifically stated the costs that led to that number, of which equipment, props, uniforms/costumes etc weren't part of it. so for 60-70 days of housing, fuel/bus and food is $9800 a kid. so say $165 a day. think about what you spend a day on food, travel and housing.2 points

Did you catch the part about a 'third-party investigator'? That is something many of us have advocated for.2 points

I’m just reporting what I saw, I’m making no judgment calls on this because I have no information besides what he says SCV said to him. Facebook is my new bff because I got a check for $397 from them yesterday. I’ll hate them again tomorrow.2 points

This. I’d be surprised if SCV as an organization said anything about this current issue. Their MO has always been to be as tight-lipped on everything as possible, whether that’s show announcements, an important staff member leaving suddenly, or anything else especially internal. It’s up for debate whether some or any of those things should be talked about publicly, for me it depends largely on the situation. My bet is they’ll take the “don’t talk about it and it’ll go away eventually” approach for this one.2 points

We have no confirmation of what happened. Nothing except an original post from the poster and a link to the member concerned. Also, the many comments on his FB post. DCP loves a controversy. This website has been driven to the level of TMZ. Time and time again.2 points

Then perhaps 'Corporate SCV' should say something. Surely they know that a change this big at this point of the season would create questions within the Drum Corps community. Did they have press releases ready to go? Or did they not know, and are now behind the curve? (And don't call me Shirley)2 points

I hate Facebook and my account is so locked down with privacy settings, that Jim couldn’t even get into it if i dropped dead. But they did send me a check for $397 yesterday because I signed onto the Illinois civil suit against them.2 points

I get that part. Not defending the man’s actions (because I don’t know what actually happened) but it’s definitely better to jump out in front and try to control the narrative. If he said nothing, rumors would run amok and his silence would be taken as an admission of guilt in the court of public opinion.2 points

Michael Gains: Hey! Wanna be my visual caption head? Anyone with a pulse: !!!!2 points

Vanguard fired their Visual Caption Manager a week out from move-ins prompting their entire visual staff to resign in protest, and they've already replaced them 🤯1 point

I believe it and I don't blame DCI either. They can't control the cost of housing, transportation and insurance. It's sad that not any kid can take part in the activity anymore.1 point

Since this is a show reveal thread I'll drop the source music here...YouTube since that is allowed... David Maslanka "A Child's Garden of Dreams" Bob Thiele/George Weiss "What a Wonderful World" Antonio Sanchez "Bad Hombres (Y Mujeres)" Bob Crewe/Bob Gaudio "Can't Take My Eyes off of You" David Maslanka "Symphony No. 7: Mvmt. 3" Wolgang Amadeus Mozart "Requiem in D Minor, K. 626: VII. Also amongst those comments are a vast variety of respected staff, alumnus, recent members showing support. He seems to have been well appreciated by many, though it could also just be a good example of a Facebook echo chamber.1 point

We can sell shirts that say "Facebook is the MonkeyPox of social media" at the same booth as the "Pageantry Leech" shirts.1 point

By “his version of events” I was only referring to what was said in his facebook post. Maybe not the best choice of words on my part since he kept that part pretty vague.1 point

Not dark at all (although I think Crown could do dark REALLY well). Inferno worked and it was darkish. I could see them doing a Requiem Mass.1 point

His whole side is available publicly on his Facebook page. I'd be really curious to know more but we all know that isn't happening.1 point

I saw the Detroit Symphony Orchestra play the Third Symhony this year. I agree, she should be played by some corps. (I also saw Hilary Hahn play Dvorak’s Violin Concerto at the same concert.)1 point

Really appreciate all the responses so far... They're not only educating but passionate...And one can see the shoulders that current designers stand on...Peace1 point

Bobby probably doesn't get the credit he deserves. What he did with Bridgemen and then with Velvet Knights was amazing. I miss both corps but especially VK.1 point

All of the above, but I would also include Greg Poklacki. I’m surprised he hasn’t yet been mentioned. He wrote some stunning and organic drill for the Cavaliers in the mid 90s, including for their amazing 1995 championship show. His DNA helix and 3-D rotating planets at the end of the show are legendary effects!1 point

This is a bad year for DCI to raise the number of members to 165, instead they should have kept the corps size the same and raised the age to 22 for this year only. Unfortunately, that decision will be part of the reason we lose a few more corps this year.1 point
