The 2011 show "Revolution" was one of my favorite BAC shows, and I go back a while with Boston Crusaders. I'm glad they had winter rehearsals in Florida because with the winter we had last year, BAC quite possibly would not have made finals. If winter camps had been in New England, they would have lost too much valuable time. As I see this post regarding hometowns, and Boston being mentioned as a place where there are corporate offices only, a statement that I, along with other posters believe is erroneous, I was reminded of last summer's East Coast Classic. A group of then current members were at the gates when people were leaving, thanking them for attending the show and supporting BAC. More than a few had accents, one sounded like he wanted to join in a rousing chorus of "Deep in the Heart of Texas." Didn't sound like Hyde Park to me. When I saw BAC on the field earlier, they were far more polished than BAC twenty or thirty years ago, but there was something that screamed tradition and excellence as they competed, a trait always associated with BAC even in tough years. People who marched with BAC when they were feared, and as anyone who knows BAC remembers, they had a glare as they approached the field that said "get out of my way" felt the show was for them. Those who marched with BAC when they fielded a corps with numbers of small people wondered if they'd be able to present show, felt rewarded for hanging in there. Former North Stars and 27th lancers, who probably never imagined they'd be cheering for a corps that was part of a very heated rivalry, felt BAC was marching for them. Boston Crusaders is all about tradition. Few corps can brag about having three generations of family members who marched, and I'm willing to bet it won't be long until there will be the beginnings of a fourth generation. Tradition made many Massachusetts drum corps special, and BAC today, even with many out of state members keeps that tradition alive. As long a this tradition continues, it won't bother me if they have winter rehearsals in Florida and say "carrr" instead of "caaaah."2 points

I really like West Johnston, Flanagan, SCV & First Flight. there are a lot of guards using Peter Gabriel this year. I agree there are a lot of less entertaining shows2 points

Oh I get it now... you're a fraud that is just trolling. Son of a gun. You fooled us. Shame on us.2 points

Apparently Better Business Bureau (sp?) opened up an account on "Accent Marching" on 2/20/12. Accent Marching is not accredited, but there is still a place to lodge a complaint with BBB, it looks like. http://www.bbb.org/raleigh-durham/business-reviews/musical-instrument-lessons/accent-marching-in-raleigh-nc-90208132 This home base is in Raleigh, NC...?2 points

"Due to Accent Marching's new partnerships, dates have been pushed back. Accent Marching is currently hiring more brass, woodwind, and percussion clinicians. Contact Accent Marching by emailing us at info@accentmarching.com for more information." I'm tempted to become a clinician and then when the dates come up be like "Oh, nevermind!"2 points

1. Cadets- Cadets know how to sale weird shows! It's just too bad my favorite corps is playing music I hate! ( Christmas Music! Yuck!) 2. Cavaliers- They will be fine visually. A fresh visual approach will do the Cavaliers good. 3. Blue Devils- With the new judging system, visual content means something again! It will be great to see the Devils march a more difficult show. 4. BlueCoats- They have had to have learned a lesson from last year. 5. Vanguard- Drums will be better this year. I see them moving up! 5. Crown- One of my favorite shows last year! One of my favorite corps! But, So many staff changes! 7. Phantom- 8. Madison- New Guard Staff, New Drum Staff! could go higher! 9. Blue Stars- 9. Boston- 11. Blue Knights- I don't know! It's February 12. Spirit- 13. Colts- 14. Glassmen 15. Troopers 16. Crossmen 17. Academy 18. Jersey Surf 19. Oregon Crusaders 20. Pacific Crest 21. Vanguard Cadets 22. Devils B 23.Mandarin 24. Teal Sound 25. Pioneer Based on nothing!2 points

Updated as more corps announce reps: 1.) Cadets- I know 12.25 is weird, but the Cadets know how to sell a show 2.) SCV- with that team and that show, easily attainable 3.) Crown- Don't see why not 4.) Devs- any lower would be stupid 5.) Bluecoats- fix some visual issues, which helps, but hornline misses the mark 6.) Cavies- I know, they're the Green Machine, but drill design has been holding back Academy, can we not expect the same at Cavs? 7.) Phantom- Seems like a safe place for them to end up in 8.) Madison- Back with the big boys 9.) Boston- Sorry, maybe back in the TOC next year, but someone has to slip 10.) Blue Stars- trying to build back up to Top 8, but it's a process 11.) BK- still entertaining, and moving in the right direction, but only so much room at the top 12.) Academy- new brass program pushes them into Finals 13.) Sprit- very close, but the opposite of 2007 where Academy pushes by 14.) Colts- Why not? 15.) Glassmen- need to find a new direction, I think 16.) Crossmen- finding their style, but Texas gets picked kind of dry by every other corps, need something to push them back to Finals 17.) Troopers- don't get me wrong, I love these guys, but the top 15 gets pretty stacked up every year 18.) PC- they seem to be pretty consistent around this area 19.) OC- their first Open Class Title? 20.) SCVC- it could happen 21.) Jersey Surf- starting to really find their World Class stride 22.) BDB- close to Surf, but just smidge under 23.) Teal Sound- new staff, could be shaky 24.) Pioneer- I want them in prelims 25.) Mandarins- Just cause, they just seem to be a corps without a complete product These could be right, they could be wrong. Won't know till August, but it's fun to spit-ball ideas2 points

Since they posted the need for 2 trumpets and 1 tuba 28 hours ago and probably didn't have a camp in that time, I'm going with no.2 points

If Boston and Madison keep putting out the kind of shows they've put out lately, I don't care if they rehearse on Pluto. Keep it coming.1 point

The Crossmen WERE from West Chester, PA. They are not anymore, which is pretty obvious. But they are still the Crossmen. Heck, when was the last time they were actually from West Chester. They've been from Wilmington/Newark, DE; Bensalem, PA; YEA; and Allentown, PA. And I might have missed one. Yes West Chester is still a "home" for the corps and Crossmen alumni are everywhere around here. I run into to people at Wawa all the time, haha. The whole East Coast is home for the Crossmen. And so is the whole state of Texas. The Crossmen are from San Antonio, TX right now. Trust me I know... I flew 2,000 miles to camps and spring training that were all in San Antonio.1 point

I cant wait to see ALL the corps - especially my Mid-West corps. Of course I will look closest at the corps that like to hype the most on DCP. As for the shows I am attending (got most of the tickets bought and rooms reserved!): Madison (Middleton?), WI Oswego, IL Michigan City, IN Cedarburg, WI Whitewater, WI Kalamazoo, MI Salem, WI (Paddock) Minneapolis, MN Rockford (TOC event), IL HOME SHOW!!! Prelims in Indy Semis in Indy Finals in Indy1 point

Boston practices at Quincy Ma, right before going on tour. Quincy stadium is about 2 miles from the City of Boston itself. The Corps headquarters are in the Boston area, most of the Board members are from the Boston area, its current Executive Director is born and raised in Boston(and also marched in the Corps ) and the Corps gets the largest bulk of its funds to run its Corps from the generosity of fans and alums from the Boston area. And its 2 shows it sponsors each year is in the Boston area ( Quincy, Lawrence ) Like most DCI Corps, Boston gets marchers now from all over the country. No doubt this has allowed them to both survive and prosper in difficult times, and are grateful for this national and international draw for its members. Ironically, there are more alums from the Boston Crusaders that were from Hyde Park section of Boston that marched in the Corps in the 50's and early 60's that now live in retirement in Florida than live in the city of Boston.( ( or they reside in Heaven or that Other Place now ). But they wore the Red and Black. So they remain " Boston Crusaders " no matter where their bed and pillow resides these nights now. I think this topic is covered each year. Corps get their names now not from where the vast majority of their marchers come from anymore. The days of the neighborhood Drum Corps where 80-90% of the marchers were born and raised in that community went out with duck tailed greasers haircuts. Some people apparently havn't quite come to grips with Drum Corps INTERNATIONAL Corps, as this topic comes up on DCP each spring almost like crocuses, daffodills, and tulips pop up every year in the spring in the colder climates of the US. The Madison Scouts are the Madison Scouts too. One look should be enough to see it too.1 point

Not sure. But I'm in San Antonio and the Crossmen are right down the street rehearsing as I type this... =) -1 point

As a marching band director, I would not (at this moment) send my students to an Accent marching clinic. My reasons: 1.) Lack of one WELL-KNOWN name. This doesn't always mean it's the best, but it gives credit. Thom Hannum, Dennis DeLucia, etc. 2.) For a fraction of the cost, my students can attend a local DCI or DCA open house and get world class instruction. 400$ is WAY too much 3.) For a fraction of the cost, my students can receive at least 4 hour long one-on-one lessons with a local teacher or clinician. 4.) I personally would need to see a background check of any adult involved (they may do this upon request, i just haven't checked). 5.) The track record of the director, especially among the community he hopes to survive, is especially negative. (I feed into the "hype" when it comes to the welfare of my students) 6.) Students of a LOCAL CLINIC should not be forced to abide by the hotel rules. Serve them lunch, end camp at 5 every day. It's not shouldn't be drum corps auditions, it should be affordable and fun. Did I mention the costs of this program are WAAAAYYYYY TOOOO EXPENSIVE? Oh yeah I did. For what he is offering, it should be $100/day MAX. Lower it to $50/day, show me clearances, and provide the band directors the opportunity to lurk/oversee and I'd give it a go.1 point

Dont judge too quickly. Most of the music was just given to them the night before........1 point

at least 15 corps will "get robbed by the judges" at some point in the season and oftentimes, a corps will do well only because their staff designed "for the judges"1 point

Please tell me you're joking. How could Boston not make Prelims? EVERYONE makes prelims.1 point

We don't joke about that. Not that scores matter, but I've never gotten a 90 in my marching career. The closest I came to getting a 90 was with Capital Regiment. I joked in the tunnel as we were taking the field for retreat that "wouldn't it be hilarious if we got an 89.95?" to which everyone around me laughed. "and in 5th place, with a score of 8-9 point 95....CAPITAL RRRRRRRREGIMENT." Anyway, to stay vaguely on topic, I hope that BD does something along the lines of last year. I really bought into that show after some initial skepticism. Can't wait for SCV either. The rumors I've heard about Crown's show are good. Very good.1 point

This show is going to be exquisite. I cannot wait to hear the adagio theme from Jupiter as arranged by Shaw. And Rennick. And I echo my sentiment about Shaw and Hymn to a Blue Hour. This should be an awesome, accessible show. I was thinking how overplayed the Planets seem, but I can't remember any prominent performances of the Planets since...well...a while (cue the searches on corpsreps to prove me wrong). Good lord this summer is shaping up to be a repeat of the last summer. </hype>1 point

One of our students in the band program (he's 15) auditioned for the Cavaliers for this upcoming year and was ranked in the top of his section musically. However, he did not have previous experience marching corps and was told to come back when he did. Best to have a marching experience closer to home and then move on to other corps. Just my two cents...1 point

I wouldn't call anyone on DCP necessarily a troll. What DCP is, is a group of people who are very passionate, educated and committed to the success of drum corps and their respected corps. You have to remember there are people on this forum who have been around drum corps longer then you have been alive and have spent countless hours and dollars to ensure its success/future.1 point
-
Sad. I just hope all of us take the time to remember that our veteran's took the time to 'fit it in' to fight for our country in the past as they continue to do today.1 point

Steve (and the people that +1ed him), do you audition players for drum corps? Getting cut from Corps X has "almost" nothing to do with that instant time when auditioning for another corps. We have no clue what happened in his audition at SOA. We have no idea what he may have learned at SOA, in order to increase his chances elsewhere. EVERYONE wants experienced members, even Pioneer! Any money he'd spend at a quality org like Crown is NEVER a waste! If one wants to march tuba in drum corps, why not go to one of the best to see how it's done? I would've normally suggested Bluecoats Tubas in such a situation (speaking of best, when it comes to tubas), but I happen to know they're already loaded (again). Crown was looking. Your post smacks of elitism and arrogance...normally reserved for me, lol, so that's saying something!1 point
