How can such an obviously talented team at Crown think this plexiglass sheet add value to that show?11 points

It's been a few years since I've done this, hasn't it? Anyway, not too many shows yet, so the numbers are still very rough. The formulas will get more comfortable with more data. Here are the current estimated championships week scores for the World Class corps... 98.141 Santa Clara Vanguard 97.333 Blue Devils 97.327 Carolina Crown 96.795 Bluecoats 95.273 Cavaliers 95.266 Boston Crusaders 91.273 Mandarins 91.030 Cadets 89.852 Blue Stars 88.650 Blue Knights 87.407 Academy 86.397 Crossmen 85.731 Phantom Regiment 85.381 Spirit of Atlanta 84.121 Colts 84.067 Madison Scouts 82.290 Troopers 79.200 Pacific Crest 78.019 Music City 74.938 Genesis 72.256 Cascades 70.613 Jersey Surf10 points

Maybe if Boston added the sound of cash register going "ca-ching" after every time they use that "My shot" sample...7 points

I actually thank the Cavies for that... Can anyone still hear this part of the show just watching the gif? I.C.O.N.I.C.7 points

So I finally got time to watch the full Cadets run from Detroit. First shows are always a mess, especially when you deal with lots of rain. Additionally, some show ideas simply take more time to clean or sort out and make sense of. This also makes it difficult for fans to see the positives in a show or to get a sense of the direction. I am seeing that with several comments about a few corps this summer. It's typical early-season discussion. Having said that, I actually think this Cadets show is going to be fantastic! The back 3rd of the show is clearly dirty and not finished. Staging needs work, and some of the music will be adjusted. But there is a nice program in there and some effective brass and percussion. Brass sounds MUCH better at this juncture than last year and they have some serious demand and exposure. Fleshing out the story or the interpretations and the staging will be key. I think the drill itself is really good at times. I assume someone new is writing the closing material, but it looks good except for the wandering around in areas where they are obviously going to do some staging. This is a show that will take more time to work out the kinks and clean, but I honestly believe this will be a really good to potentially great show come late July. It's tough to see at the moment through all the dirt, but I actually believe they have a really good show in the making. Go Cadets!7 points

Well, hell, I’m just gonna say it; I thought Spirit should have made finals last yea.6 points

I just got back today from Cali, so I’ve seen live all the big names but Coats, Cadets, Scouts, and Colts. (None of us has seen BK in competition.) My favorite so far for just sitting back and watching good, refreshing drum corps: Boston, Cavies, BD, Mandarins. Give Blue Stars an HM. Probably in that order. Vanguard and Crown are great, just no goosebumps from me this year. Hopeful that will change. Really rooting for Spirit and The Academy.6 points

Top 12 turn on the "Neon" welcome sign, Spirit's "Knocking" on the door to come in!6 points

I am very happy for the Crossmen and Spirit results tonight. I don't know if everyone knows that they are considered "sister corps". It's been a long time since both made the top 12. It would be nice to see that again.6 points

And I think Crown might have cut down on the narration tonight.6 points

Was watching a live feed and the crowd went crazy at the company front and crown set at the end!6 points

Blue Stars march, too. I mean, while playing. Really enjoyed them. Some parts are kind of just a scramble of stuff. But it’s June!6 points

IMuch to like from Phantom. Some curious things, too. I enjoyed that much better than at theater. Seemed noticeably better than Spirit. But I am not the right person to be guess at scores and placements. Electronic bass: wow. I remember a friend’s El Camino in 1975 that he would drive around town with that kind of sound. Would like to avoid it in a corps show.6 points

Anyone else feel that the 'Come Together' blues shout chorus may very well fulfill the price of admission all by itself? That's a rippin' chunk of music.6 points

I find many of the shows are boring (and this is not an old vs. new thing) and lacking sustained melodies. The Bluecoats are one of the few shows I find entertaining and interesting.6 points

This show needs to be seen live before fair judgments can be made. I've watched the flo video plus some others that are floating around and they just don't do it justice. I think this hornline has a better ensemble sound NOW than they did at finals last year. They sound like everybody else in the videos, but when you're sitting in front of them and they hit that first impact, you're just floored by how incredible they sound. I can't imagine what they'll sound like as the season progresses. I made the "pajamas" observation the first time I saw their uniforms as well but if you sit up close, they look better. But, frankly, you should be sitting up close to watch this corps anyway. You'll be missing a lot of the detail otherwise. I'm looking forward to seeing them put the closer on the field. Side note: There's a reason Mandarins are getting the love they're getting right now. They're really good.6 points

Actually it's Kinetic Noise. I love Tilt (marched it after all) but I think that 2015 was smarter, deeper, and better-executed. Absolutely criminally under-recognized.6 points

As a Blue Stars alum from way back in the day, yes, what they did was remarkable and impossible to overstate when discussing degree of difficulty. Incredible leadership in La Crosse.5 points

Hmmm. I didn't think they needed to. I was more concerned with Boston's gratuitous usage of the 'best shot' line.5 points

I remember competing in the U.S. Open in Marion, OH. I think it was '77. It started pouring on us while we performed. We kept playing. Judges kept judging. We got a score and came in 2nd to the Toronto Optimists who performed after us with no rain. To this day, I remember (1) the rain drops furiously bouncing off of my horn (2) how heavy our pants got when they were soaked (3) riding to our next stop overnight surrounded by wet uniforms.5 points

Entertains show from Music City. Clearly a first time out. Seems like in the lower end of that Madison group. The mice thing might be a bit too cute for my tastes. But crowd liked it.5 points

This is always a kind of intimate show. From the strangely arranged seats to a brigade of volunteers to $2 hot dogs.5 points

Seeing this show again the bones aren't as weak as I thought. There could be some additions visually for transitions but the staging and drill currently in place is very strong, probably the strongest I've seen from anyone. Also the colorguard is flipping amazing as well but that's nothing new. The biggest issue is musically the show isn't quite gelling together right now and parts of it feel pretty haphazard. While Cavaliers and SCV do sound amazing right now I still think they're being hosed just a bit in brass. Again this is probably just because the music book isn't clicking in general right now. I feel there's greatness at the cusp here but the team just has to grasp at it.5 points

Good job tonight! Cut into SCV's lead, opened up a comfortable gap on the Cavies who are Beast Mode, and nearly swept GE. See you in SoCal!!!!5 points

While this is sad because they’ve been in the big show every year since ‘74, DCI shouldn’t be in the business of propping anyone up just because they’ve been there a long time.4 points

95% chance Phantom doesn't make Finals this year. They're sitting 15th or 16th overall right now and, while they might pass up a corps or two, I just don't see them passing four or five corps to make Finals.4 points

If middle of the pack performance is considered a "DISASTER" then I would hate to hear what you have to say about consistently bottom-12 corps. A couple of off years don't mean the corps is doomed. If it were then there's no way we would be marching a full roster. As a member I can say the constant negativity online is a major source of frustration to vets and rookies alike. The show this year is a ton of fun and positivity and support from fans/alumni is a million times more of a motivator than "I hope we don't suck like last year."4 points

I think Jeff Sacktig is once again proving that he is among the best in the activity at drill design. Crown's music book is incredible, and the demand of the whole show is top rate. I'd definitely have Crown right there with SCV and Bluecoats at the moment. I know BD will eventually clean what they have an be in the discussion, too. Throw in Cavaliers and Boston and the fans are in for a treat. Having said that, I think both Bloo and Crown have the good to win. It will all come down to how they clean and tweak vs SCV and BD.4 points

I was in small, struggling corps for years and wouldn't have given it up for anything.4 points

I had more concerns for the Cadets last year in the early going. I think this show is far better than people feel it is. It is rough and dirty and not finished, but I believe this is going to be a really good show come mid July, and maybe an amazing show come August.4 points
