  1. How do you sell a shirt to people who don't wear shirts?

  2. Boston looks like a drum corps. No low end looking costumes for them.

  3. The "I Got Rhythm" section in BD 2009 was at 236bpm. Every horn player except tubas marched the first 72 counts at single time using a crab-step technique. Then there were sporadic tempo changes in the feet between single and half time that was different for every individual. I personally marched the first 72 plus 24, 24, and 16 cts at single time with half time sections between each. Not a single step of the first 72 was under 7 to 5.

  8. It's not that hard to learn brass... DCI hornlines are not full of principles in top college ensembles. They are full of people who bust their ##### to work hard. As for your question, there are definitely corps that put rookies on the podium.

  9. All you have to do is make something like under armour, but that's actually comfortable to wear.

  10. So, Mike McIntosh would leave The Cavaliers, who just won drums to go to Crown? Yeah I don't think so. As someone else posted earlier, it will end up being Hannum who takes over.

  11. One of the best horn books of all time. I was talking to an Alto player from BD 90-91, he said that after the 90 season, basically most of the hornline returned and were expecting to contend if not win the title that year. He said it was disappointing to see how the whole Tom Float drama out played in January 91 with most of the battery and pit walking out. During tour having the drum book rewritten on several occasions. That said, the Horn Line was so good playing this challenging music, coming in 5th they took High Brass with Star. The Horn line from top to bottom, outstanding, no weakness. What ever you do, buy the original, you will appreciate BD's show even more. 12. It's all about the show design. They have a very talented percussion arranger and many other staff that remain, but it still is about having time to work together and it just seems that PR has been frantically trying to find that winning 08 formula. I personally loved their show this year, one of the most beautiful productions on the field, but that will not be championship caliber again until they find the design staff that will stick it out and stay loyal to the corps. At the risk of sounding personally critical (which I try to fight against), I think they have worn out the "death and dying" human drama themes, it worked, but they need to move on.

  13. I have been a fan of Hannums work through the years, but I didn't like the Scouts drum book at all this year. Then again I think that all drum lines play too many notes & aren't musical enough, but that's just me. What the Scouts need is a staff that sticks around for more than 1 or 2 years.

  15. Nice. Johnny NoJumper. Given the recent state of Madison percussion (not top twelve this year) you'd think some people would be excited about an influx of top staff and talent.

  16. Agreed. I am sure the remaining members of the Scouts will enjoy having a better group as a result. Why would you not want to improve your team? Hey, Kobe Bryant is a free agent and wants to come to your team, but you don't want him to take Johnny Nojumper's spot because he is already on the team?!?!?!?!

  17. Well, I guess everybody will have to earn their spot then, wont they. We'll see how you feel if the Scouts are scoring better in percussion next year. My guess is you wont be complaining.

  18. Crown is a G7 corps; they aren't in too much trouble. However, one could say that Crown just got "ROCKed" and lost its "STARs."

  24. Chris put this whole corps together from the remnants of an imploding Memphis Sound and moved it to Texas. After only two years, this is a surprising change. I hope Chris is healthy. That would be one reason why he would have stepped down so abruptly. Best wishes, Chris. Who's the new Forte director going to be? Those are tough shoes to fill.

  28. I don't see very much correlation between "inspiring performances" and competitive placement. They might be an incredibly inspiring 8th place corps. Who knows! I think it's safe to say they will NOT be an incredibly boring 5th place corps, though.

  32. Totally agree on bringing back the St. Catherine's Queensmen ... I still say had they been able to make it down to Miami in 1961 for the VFW Nats, they would have won or at least been top three ... they were simply a magical corps ... a simple "parish" corps that raised to national prominence ... they nailed both BS and Garfield just weeks after Miami, which further adds to the intrigue as to how they would have faired ... :-)

  33. I have lost a lot of respect for the Kilties organization. Any time there is a negative comment about them in a thread or review, they get all defensive and start to rant. It getting old. If you have issues with what people say on here about your corps, dont read DCP. If you dont want to have people to say "mean" things about your corps, get better. Kilties IMHO, are not very good. Sound wise they are ok but visually, I hate them. People give you bad reviews because they write about what they see. If you dont want a bad review....dont suck. Use it as motivation to get better. Maybe its time to have a talk with the members of the Kilties. Your negative comments are starting to reflect poorly on your organization. If one member post 1 rant comment from a corps, no big deal. But every time kilties are mentioned, multiple members/alum freak out. GET OVER IT.

  40. Wow - did you actually read what I wrote, or did you just lump me into the 'you disagree with me a little bit so you're a moron crowd'? I said in my post that BD has been the best marching corps since they've added that bit to their uniform, and i never accused them of hiding behind it, or using it to gain a competitive advantage. The fact that i compared them to my own corps history, and gave a bit of factual knowledge for a similar uniform change (going the other direction) proves that this has nothing to do with so-called "intercorps rivalry". It is a fact that one reason the cadets shortened their sash is because they felt it looked bad billowing behind them as they marched faster and faster drill in the 80s and 90's. 15-20 years later, BD added a similar (not the same) type of design back IN to their uniform because they thought it looked cool. No conspiracy, just something i found interesting. And seriously, i expected something a little more intelligent from you in response...oh well...
