  1. My guess would be yes. Bloo doesn’t have to win championships to be the “it” corps. They’re plenty popular winning over the fans year after year.

  2. I’ll say this: after hearing the 2019 show announcement, I was convinced the show would be “meh” at best. Obviously that wasn’t the case. I trust Bloo’s design team more than anyone else’s in the activity right now. Every single show they’ve produced since 2014 has been a very serious contender for fan favorite. Who else can say that?

  5. Funny how prices that go up because of specific events never quite go back down to prior levels once those events are no longer relevant. Gas prices had already been increasing before the Colonial Pipeline issue......

  6. True...to an extent. Everyone understands that this isn’t a normal season under normal circumstances. I fully expect most corps to produce a show that’s entertaining but less complex/challenging than normal. I believe the majority of fans will just be excited to see live drum corps again.

  7. Well...actually, like every other year, it will be judged. Maybe not by the few folks in green shirts with clip boards and numbers, but by the thousands of folks in the stands. I have a feeling this show will have a similar reaction to 2019...and '18, '17, '16 etc.

  8. Watch the beginning of the movie "Sing". If they do that type of treatment of Golden Slumbers, it will bring down the house.

  14. Or the seasons... I expect prices to jag up as people go out more after year of staying home more (raising hand). They can get the customers at the higher price..... so go for it

  15. Fuel supply may be back to normal by Memorial Day. But prices are a different animal. Inflation has become a real concern. According to the economists that have been on the radio the past few weeks, they all feel inflation for commodities, including fuel, will be a problem for at least the next 6 months.

  17. I predict it will be: ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ featuring the music of ABBA. Premise: Heavy metal fan hates ABBA. However, his employer requires him to relocate to Stockholm. Of course, when he gets there the only music is ABBA. After a tortured nightmare (ABBA in a minor key), he awakens loving all things ABBA.

  20. After the 2019 announcement I was on board completely. This one, I have one foot in the submarine and one foot outside admiring the yellow. Also, there have been a many of their shows since 2014 that I haven't been a fan of, based on that their track record with me personally isn't that great, so your last statement doesn't work with me. Lol.

  25. There are DCI Indy tour packages (Seats for 3 nights, hotel, extras) being offered. https://www.wetravel.com/trips/dci-fan-experience-2021-group-experience-indianapolis-59816686 ($987/person double occupancy) https://www.celtichorizontours.com/packages/dci-fan-experience-2020-3-nights/ (this one is Europe-based - cost is from €1150 per person but is 5 nights total) I have not seen these in past but to be fair I have not looked for them either.

  28. You know, when it comes to prices it doesn't matter what people say. Someone will raise them, people will accept them and they will become acceptable. If prices reduce a bit, people will go crazy thinking they saved. How quickly they forget original prices from just a few months prior. I am now paying close to $10 for a 6 roll of paper towel that is manufactured in the city I live in. Toilet paper is just as bad (also manufactured where I live). How does this relate to Drum Corps? Imagine I am on a corps bus and I have slept with my head against a bus window. I now have bus head (the imprint of the window on my hair - I'm not sure if that is a universal term). However, I cannot see outside the window because I had gel in my hair which has now covered the window. What do I use to clean the window? Windex (equivalent brand) and paper towel. But now paper towel is more expensive! Will the price of paper towel affect touring this summer more than the price of gas?

  29. Back on topic: I remember when we had the high fuel prices on tour several years ago & most corps just put an empty gas can at their souvie trailer for donations. I'm sure that was really beneficial & they received a large sum of money to put toward their tour fuel cost. Corps Director: "How much did we receive tonight in fuel donations?" Tour Manager: "About $4.51. I'll add it to the staff rv."

  31. Are you humming the percussion parts? if not...EPIC. FAIL. [lulz] I remember getting to the part about 'nothing is notable with hummable melodies' part of this post and having that big old drop in "My Body is a Cage" hum through my head.

  40. There is much about which you say that I agree with, most notably that it seems to be very rare these days for a DCI show to engage with complete and well-developed musical (and visual, for that matter) thoughts. It's basically "short attention span theater" on a football field and one of the reasons I just don't find myself connecting with it as much as I used to, in spite of my deep respect and admiration for the sheer ability of the performers. I'm a visual guy myself, and though I'm not a fan of the less drill/more running around, posing, squatting thing, it's the musical choices these designers are making that bother me the most and make that disconnect even more pronounced. I really do want to be more engaged but they don't give me a chance to. They're counting down their 45 seconds or so until they need to get to some kind of impact and then they move on to the next bit of music from a list of about eight or nine different selections. That's why, to me anyway, it really stands out when a corps manages to present a portion of their performance with such beautiful complete musical/visual thoughts which allow the audience to make those connections in what I feel is a much more natural and meaningful way (last year's BD ballad was a perfect example). Sometimes, these designers are so busy trying to show off how smart they are, they out-think themselves.

  41. after reading the first 5 paragraphs, i'm pretty sure I disagree with you on multiple levels. I felt lots of groove, i was moved emotionally, and I cant stop humming the ballad and closer. so your 1-3 towards the end of your dissertation i disagree with every one 10000%. And this from a guy who has #####ed about DCI arranging for years
